Crip2Nite wrote:Shredd.... I have the same exact probs when selling my equipment and advertising my band... everybody knows who I am in the LI section and there are a lot of haters! I've turned down many a musician looking for a guitarist or auditioning for me and now I've got me a lot of haters! I couldn't sell my LP studio for over a year because everytime I put it up, it would get flagged! Also, when PanikAtack broke up all my ads to reform the band went right out the window as the ads would get flagged within 10 minutes..... I started posting at 2AM so the ad would age a little and that's how the guys from MUGSY found me.... Lotsa haters on CL.... There should definitely be mods on there to control the flagging...any schmuck shouldn't have the right to flag for any reason!

RIGHT!! Exactly! It's bulls**t!! Craigslist really is a POS site for selling things. It exists, but it's policed by the people. Well if someone wants to sell something, and they see you have something similar or a better deal, they just flag it and your ad is gone. And the worst part is.. It's anonymous.

I like ebay, but then you have to deal with other bulls**t. That place has it's own share of a-holes, but at least the site and paypal make things fair in a dispute. And nobody can flag your ad for no reason. The process of selling on ebay just takes forever to be done with.

Ebay has a problem with people selling fake vintage Fenders. But in order for an ad to get pulled you have to write to ebay with a detailed description as to why the guitar is thought to be a fake, then THEY decide whether to pull it or not. Cragslist is the lazy cousin. They don't care. Fight it out amongst yourselves. It's bulls**t central.

Given the 2 choices, I'll stick with ebay. F**K craigslist.

YOU got it all wrong, you need anti flagging software to sell there. ssshh your not supposed to know about that . great stuff though. gives you home # cars and plates sometimes employers. Nothing like sending flowers to somebody elses wife or checking on present employment with their boss. Or having something really questionable sent to a co worker.
I like it.

Craiglist is not for serious seekers of anything. Too many scammers hunt off there which makes it bad for people seriously seeking to enter the music profession or do anything else.

You're right. It is full of scammers.

Some lady found her house listed for sale on there awhile back. Someone had actually taken pictures of her house and put them up, and listed her house for sale. Maybe they were going to rob prospective buyers when and if they showed up to see the house? Who knows. Don't know what the scam was, but they are running all kinds of angles on there. Gotta be careful.

Sure it's full of scammers. I've never been scammed though. I seriously seek and have seriously scored many many many times both as a buyer and as a seller. You just have to use common sense.

I went along with my wife to look at some houses to rent. One was really nice so I called the number on the billboard outside.

Nice sounding gent came on the phone and I asked him about the rent which I thought was unbelievable for the house.

The guy renting it on CR wasn't the owner. Happened many times and it is not craigslist, you simply cannot monitor that sort of thing.

Pinch of salt in all things until they become real. If not then jettison them ASAP.

I haven't come across any problems with Chicago Craigslist yet. I found band members, students, and gear from the musicians section. Dude.... this section for musicians receives at least 300 entries by the end of the day, the most of any city and seems to be legit except some jokers here in there. It might depend on each city.

There are scammers everywhere. This is not unique to Craigslist.

If you're trying to buy or sell something, your best bet is to use every tool at your disposal and then BE SMART.

Vegas is a pretty extreme city. It's never really been known as the nicest city as far as people go. When I lived in Southern Cal, people will actually wave to strangers and say hi. Here, if you do that, the first thing on people's minds are "WTF do you want?"

I went to a convenience store last night to get some cat food. When I walked out to get in my car I was approached by some guy who asks me about a dent in my truck. Usually it's the start of "hey man you got some spare change". Dude was WAY sketchy though.. He then asked if I do Shrooms. "Nope, never touch the stuff". He pulls out a big bag of them out of his pocket, tells me he's on 'em, and starts rambling about how white people need to stick together.

Then he pulls out a knife and starts cleaning his ear with it.. The first thing on my mind is "Do it.. Swing that thing through my window. I will f**king pull your arm in and bite your f**king ear off".. Dude took a look at my beady eyed stare and decides to walk off. Worked out well for both of us. He still has an ear, and I wasn't all that hungry.

Typical night after work for me. Can't even pick up a can of cat food without feeling like some freak is gonna start s**t. I've grown accustomed to it.

But common sense has nothing to do with what I was talking about with Craigslist. Some clown just keeps flagging my ads for no reason. So screw that site. Ebay is better. It's run in a more professional manner. Common sense tells me that Craigslist is just a POS site. At least here in Vegas or so it seems.

Damn I'm glad I left the city. I figger I'd either be in jail or dead if I'd stayed, cuz my attitude was starting to really suck when I lived there...

It's still a nice place to visit, though!
