Ok I have a mixer which has a preamp. I know I need this and that and something else besides........................

When recording is sounds just like it does when I hear it unplugged. This is a REAL issue now since I'm halfway through project 4.

After effects don't work well with me. I need to hear as-is. Crappy guitar and I think the preamp on the mixer isn't working the way it should?

Any ideas other than spending hundreds of dollars because I haven't got them.

Um...is it an electric/acoustic, Chip, or a solid body electric? Have you plugged in the wire? I don't understand your issue...some p/u's for acoustics need a 9 volt battery. Is that it?

If it's a bigger sound for an acoustic that you're looking for, try a touch of reverb or delay, or perhaps some light chorus effects.

Yeah I think you right it's the pickups. Sounds rather 60's ish at present. I guess I'll just have to play around with it.

One seymour JBJ pickup is about $59.99 new, slap it in the bridge position and you are golden.

im not sure what kind of guitar you have as far as brand goes. but if your guitar has EMG pickups then it could just mean you need to replace the battery in it. Surprisingly enough alot of people don't realize they have EMG pickups and thus don't realize they have a battery in their guitar. I have 2 solid body electrics that require 9v batteries and when they start dying the tone goes down alot and basically sounds like your in the 60s. I play alot with distortion and when the battery is dead it basically just sounds like i have the volume almost all the way turned down. Hope this helps. if not then everyone else is probably right and you just need new pickups Best of luck.

Chippy this may be off the wall but you and I are off the wall anyway right?

Your preamp may have some sort of internal bypass that is just letting the guitar go thru. A friend had a POD and this was happening.

You know I did wonder if somehow the signal was not being processed as I wanted? Brandon was on the nail. Sounds just like a 60's relic. (Not that this is a bad thing). not what I want though.

Maybe just use what you have for what it is Chippy. Use the sound of your guitar for your base bro. Whatever it brings to you is the right sound!
