hey...canadians....how do u all feel about your health care? is it effective? do you get prompt attention? yada yada. just thought id see how yall felt. im tired of hearing these crazy...CRAZY right wingers talk about how health care reform is a mistake. o my favorite line just came from a rebublican senator who said america has the best health care in the world....he must be retard, i dont see how some of these ppl reach where theyre at. must be becuase they have the money to fuel a campaign.

There are more legal residents in the state of California alone than total Canadian citizens.
When I found out this little fact, I could no longer use Canada's health care system as a guide positive or negative.
It's just not apples to apples IMO.

Just food for thought.

I think our HC is good. It's not perfect ... but it does the job. The cost is reasonable about $60 per month per person, no co-pays, no pre-existing conditions, no bill after you get out of the hospital ... way cheaper drugs ... what's not to like.

The down side is there are wait lists for certain op's ... but most are 2 to 3 months if you are not at risk ... and they are shorter depending on your risk.

Both my parents died a couple of years ago, they lived until they were in their 90's. They both got good promped HC through their golden years. My mom was in a old age home with Alzheimer’s for the last 10 years and had great care. A freind has had 3 heart attacks in the past 4 years and had to had major surgery all 3 times, was on the operating table within 1 hrs of the attack ... didn't cost him a penny ... I'd hate to think of the bill he'd got down in the US ... he'd probably be denied HC ins. after the first attack because of pre-existing ... what kind of HC is that?

I think having a for profit HC system is going to fail ... in time it becomes unaffordable ... and that's what you seeing now. Your system is not about getting ppl better it's about make profit and bonuses for insurance CEO's and the easiest way to do that is to deny HC or jack up the rates.

There are Americans moving to Canada for HC ... it's true ... I know about 6 ppl that have, 3 are musicians, because they couldn't get HC anymore in the US ... and they are pissed because they had to leave their homeland ... but they are getting older and couldn't see any other way.

And forget about the right wingers ... their're just mouthing the words of the Corp US propaganda, it's Corp US that has to be defeated ... but with billions of dollars from the lobbyists being paid to the house and senate ... how's that going to happen? This is where the real fight is, Corp US has to much influence in the US goverment, so what is good for Corp US get passed and what good for the ppl doesn't.

Follow the money .... and who has the most to loose and you'll see how's driving the agenda

What has that got to do with anything?? If anything economies of scale come into play with a larger population.

yea but look at a more populated country such as france they do it better than anyone, granted theirs isnt a government option based system, more a hybrid with single payer. im asking more so is the setup in canada preferable, do they get the best care available and promptly. cuz u hear righties talkin about how "this poor person couldnt get top notch care so they came to the u.s." im not really trying to debate whether or not the u.s. should adopt canadas system. just seein how they felt about it. at least they know they have health care. ive got friends about to start med school that cant even afford health insurance.

i love how u brought up that your wait is determined by the severity of the situation. thats a HUGE fact that the anti-reformers intentionally leave out to make their argument.

not bad.....depends on the calendar......and whether it gets better funding in that particular election year

the worst problem is union issues and bed /nurse ratio crap in my opinion.....there are some ridiculous stories about ER screwups and REAL emergency cases being redirected while someone with a cough occupies a spot.

A lot of people abuse the system as if it's their own private doctors office....not to menton those with dual citizenships that visit here for expensive operations and then fly home after.....It's still a work in progress.

On the other hand remember that audio from SICKO.....where Nixon was contemplating privatizing it ?.......when the person lobbying for it said it (privatization) absolutely could not fail....they'd just take the premiums and deny the coverage ?.......in that movie Michael Moore pointed out that in independant review ( was it the WHO ? ) USA rated 36th....BELOW Cuba !

Hospitals are for sick and dying people...regardless of if they can pay....but then modern medicine can work miracles too . Maybe they just need to agree on what things are necessities and which are not.
ie : kidney transplants save lives.......but liposuction and stomach stapling ....welll....they may be needed but....do they go on that list ?

lol thats alright it happens to the best of us. yea i really like how those pricks at guantanamo bay get free health care yet the 9/11 workers, sick from contact with materials they helped clean up from 9/11, cant get it here in the states but can in cuba.

The good.

You won't go broke because you get sick and the doctors, nurses, technical staff are great.

The bad.

You only get what the govenment is willing to give you. There are lots of inefficiencies as bereaucrats try to ge it right, including wating lists, lack of responsibility and accountability.

My suggestion.

Go for a mixed private public system. It protects you from illness based bankrupcy and offers great basic care but still gives you the option of private care if you like more personal service or don't like waiting lists.
