I had it on good information that Sir Galway might not have been the star that he is had it not been for another flute player having a cold and not being able to go to either the audition or something similar many, many years ago.
I've tried searching on this but cannot find the name of this person, now not in contact or in that circle sadly.
Just another to add to the annuls of could have beans.

Sir James was here a couple of years ago and told a funny story. He was in the limo driving to the concert when he realized he had a left his bag of flutes by the baggage claim. This was no ordinary bag of flutes; there were several gold flutes he has won over the years that were priceless. They quickly returned to the airport and discovered the bag still sitting where he had left it. Seems with the current conditions no one wanted to touch a duffel bag left on its own at the airport.
