Sir James Galway says he's never played a "flaut" and that the the correct term is "flutist".

Sir James was here a couple of years ago and told a funny story. He was in the limo driving to the concert when he realized he had a left his bag of flutes by the baggage claim. This was no ordinary bag of flutes; there were several gold flutes he has won over the years that were priceless. They quickly returned to the airport and discovered the bag still sitting where he had left it. Seems with the current conditions no one wanted to touch a duffel bag left on its own at the airport.

I had it on good information that Sir Galway might not have been the star that he is had it not been for another flute player having a cold and not being able to go to either the audition or something similar many, many years ago.

I've tried searching on this but cannot find the name of this person, now not in contact or in that circle sadly.

Just came on and saw this thread. You guys said some nice stuff about me and I thank you for that. Misty has some very interesting licks. I enjoyed listening to your music, my lady. Misty, it is great having some other flute blood here on band mix. BTW, it is flutist and either pronounciation is correct. It don't matter how you say it...what matters is how you play it

Oh, I met Sir James. there are not many people who are shorter than me So I felt real special standing next to him. I felt even more special attending this concert that featured James Galway thanks to my student who auditioned to play in a massive flute choir, directed by him. She nailed the audition. The program was to introduce the Henri Mancini postage stamp. Not only was he a world class composer, conductor and musician, HM was a flutist from OHIO. Oh, yeah, I also met John Glen, at that concert, another Ohioan.
