Why would I want XP if I have an OS that runs great on less than half the system XP will?

Why would you run 2K if your can run win98?
Why run Win98, when you can run Win95?
Why run Win95, when you can run Windows 3.1?

Why even run windows if you're worried about resource hogs?

Not looking to create a debate, but having spent the last twelve years on Windows (jumped straight from 95 to XP though), struggling with constant maintenance, after two years now with my Mac Pro, and virtually NO maintenance, slow downs or crashes, I'm sold.

It took over a year to get to the point of spending 98% of my time on the Mac OS, and though I still use XP for some software I can't afford to migrate, I do ALL of my audio production on the Mac now, and haven't had any problems since getting over the "Mac beginner's learning curve". Not that I've never used a Mac before. I spent three years using one at work (back when OS8 was brand new), and the only problem I ever had with that one was regularly having to rebuild the desktop and preferences file.

I haven't even had to do that with this one.

The "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC" ads may be exaggerated, and may even seem stupid to long time hard core Windows fans, but for me, every ad rings comepletely true.

A major increase in intital investment, yes, but in the long run, FAR cheaper. Add up the cost of seven different PC's over the last ten years, and the price for them was far higher than this one, that will clearly last longer than any of them.

I value my time. Now I spend most of it getting work done, instead of chasing down solutions to problems just like this.

I feel your pain Pete!

These days though, "Homey don't play that!"

Ya, my PowerBook from 2001 has been flawless. Still is flawless, and will still chew on anything I care to through in its mouth, A/V wise.

Ha ha. Just for historical (hysterical) purposes, I still have the full set of Windows 3.1 on floppy disks. Also Lotus 123. Maybe I can sell 'em on e-bay for 10 bucks when I'm 200 years old. :)
