Only irregularity, like when your voice is sh*t. :)

I've only used pitch correction a few times in the studio. Definitely can't be used en masse, just in spots where needed. It can weird out the whole track if used too much.

The concept is almost humorous to me. Could you imagaine a band full of beginners all hooked up to one of these contraptions, including the vocalist? All you'd have to do is play and sing whatever the hell you want and voila, instant band! What a bunch of manure. It would STILL sound like sh*t. If you can't play or sing the right way then become a DJ or something. Or better yet go and listen to a jukebox...

Fortunately (or unfortunately) it doesn't work like that. The note needs to be relatively close to correct or the software won't be able to fix it. You also need to tell it the key of the song; if it's in c#m and you enter c# you'll get a mess. Garbage in, garbage out.

Jimmy I see it this way.
Comes down to is it used as a tool?
Or used as a crutch for a tool?

Hell why dont I just post some licks from Eddie Van Halen and tell you guys "see how good I can play"

George, that is exactly the point when it comes to technology. You can become dependent on it; I depend on it to create most of the music I make, whether live or in the studio. Unless you play in an acoustic combo that doesn't mike or amplify the music you do too. It's how we use technology that make the difference; if you don't use it like a tool you become the tool.

Betcha can't do those 1/4 tone bends with it!

How does it work with a guitarist's vibrato? Does it remove the effect?

There's a threshold setting that you can use to determine how wrong the note is before the correction algorithm kicks in. So if the note is only 10% wrong and you have it set for 20% nothing would change. As far as vibrato and bends go, it's a function of threshold and how much the note varies. As I mentioned, it's not something you want to turn on for the whole track; with good editing tools you can use it just at the wrong note. In fact, this is the only way it should be used.

I for one love the way some people are using the Antares on a full time basis. I like to hear the human voice in a different format just like when the acoustic guitar went electric and then to distortion. I am hearing purest crap here. In order for the antares to work you still have to be able to sing in tune somewhat just like a guitar has to be in tume some what to make it sound different. You got to love those 10 million songs with power cords.... or hate them. Its a matter of what you like and I like Cher. Do you beleive in life after love.

Do you beleive in guitar after distortion.

If you have a piano, why do you use a synth.

Purest. baa hum bug.

If this was the case then the only REAL music is acoustic instrument music.

I love some songs by John Denver.
I love some songs by AC/DC
I even like Roger's Oh Baby Baby.

Now check this out for the human voice.

I think you make some good points RG, the same people probably said the same things about synthesizers when they came out. Technophobes is what I call them, which is fine but just because you don't use a certain technology does not make you better than someone who does. Pitch correction is just one of hundreds of tools to help us make better music.

I'm a techno geek. But I have thought about going back to acoustic drums just to see what I have forgot about.

But for now, back to "how the hell did they get that sound" I wanna do that.
