I'm new here and just wanted to say hi!

I'm a guitarist/songwriter looking for others to start an original band. I'm in Winston-Salem, NC and I'm 37.

I've been playing for a long time, but only recently took it seriously. It's much more difficult finding people to play with than I thought!

How do you folks find band members, or just people to play with (with the same mindset as you)?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

I looked at your profile, & it could use a little more info. Just a suggestion, but you should prolly post a sample of your playing in MP3 format, so ppl can match you to their own skill level. You also don't list any of the equipment you use, or even what instrument you play.

I wouldn't advertise the fact that I "didn't take it seriously" in the past. You might better say that you're prepared to take it very seriously now...

Are you a lead player?

You also should prolly decide which is most important to you - the music or the ganja acceptance. There are a lot of ppl that think the two don't mix well, & that could put them off, & unless it's an integral part of your playing & lifestyle, you can let that lil tidbit slide until you're better acquainted with your potential co-workers.

Best ways I've found to meet up with like-minded ppl is the open mic. A few ppl have found bandmates here, too. You can also talk to music stores, music teachers, instrument repairmen, your local theater group, etc. Everyone knows a musician, if they aren't one themselves.

Best of luck. Check out other ppl's profiles & pick & choose those things that would attract your attention, & apply them to your own.

Best of luck in your search.

Looks like he followed your advice Phil. (minus the music upload though)

Welcome aboard Chuck!

Just to warn you though... Phil has almost as big a hard-on for me, as I have for Angelina Jolie, but other than that, everyone gets along for the most part, even after heated debates on the topics you aren't supposed to discuss... but we do anyway. LOL

;-)

Thanks Phil and Craig!!!

Yeah, if I ask for help, I follow the advice...lol.

I will upload something in the near future...I'm not sure what to record.

I feel funny recording a song with only electric guitar and vocals...not too sure if my voice is right either, but I know what I want it to sound like.

As for gear, I'm not too sure what I need. I know what guitar I want as a professional, but I don't really know what else to buy.

For a while all I had to upload was BT's (backing tracks).

Go to guitarBT.com, download a track of a song you know, record your git in the mix, then master, convert to mp3, and upload. Doesn't have to be a studio recording or anything, just something that gives people an idea of how well you can play.

Not many of us can record that well, so it's easy to overlook that side of things :)

As far as gear, what do you currently own?? Start with that, then ask advice if needed
