My mother and my fathers familys go all the way back to the Mayflower. Been traced on both sides. This may sound great at first but then you realize that most of these people where thrown out of England.

You could say I was a born outlaw I guess.

There is some Cherokee in my linage also.

It's funny how these things were told to me, as a kid. I remember my great grandma & my great-uncle so proudly telling me that she was an "Indian PRINCESS," like it meant I was born of royalty, or something. Why aren't there ever any NORMAL ppl in our relations? "She was a stubby lil squaw with big feet & halitosis," would make it seem more believeable to me, now.

I didn't realize that the Shawnee had queens & princesses & such...

jeez, lemme guess who lobbied the sh*t out of that idea...

sure, I understand that this is supposed to keep folks from ending up owing big money to a hospital, but it's only a black heart deal under that guise.

Now you'll have no choice but to get some crappy insurance that will back out of your specific care when you need it anyway? Strong arm insurance?

incidentally, my grandfather's biological father was supposedly a full blood Indian of some sort... but he would never talk about that out of respect for my great grandfather who adopted him.

I heard that the health care system for American Indians is garbage. My wife's sister is a doctor who worked on an Indian reservation, and their health care is the pits. Probably a sign as to what a nationalized health care system will be like....

The neighborhood I grew up in was called "Indian Creek"...And I grew up on "Shawnee Crt."

Does that count?

I'm actually Italian and German...but I usually only admit the Italian part

My wife is half native Mexican Indian. Does she and my son qualify for American Indian healthcare? She was born here in the United States. This might get complicated. There's this argument brewing about providing any new national health insurance to illegal immigrants. Obviously my wife is a legal citizen, BUT since she's of MEXICAN NATIVE BLOOD can she get American Indian healthcare? Hmm, maybe we've got an issue for some attorney to pursue for us (on a contingency of course). This does open a big can of worms, doesn't it? Just what we need in this country is MORE legal problems to complicate the GIGANTIC BLACK HOLE OF BUREAUCRATIC MESS.

Actually, there is a list of "approved tribes," or some such, bob.

Looking at the article, there's been damned little "special interest lobbying" on Native Americans' behalf since the '70's, & that was prolly due to the Billy Jack movies. LOL

Since we began to "allow" them to have casinos on some of their "sovereign lands" (HAH!), we pretty much quit caring about their problems, other than to mess with their religious rites in the Native American Church. (It is no longer legal for them to use peyote cuz it doesn't fit in with our national idea of "religious rites," pious meddlers that we are.)

yeah philby, but the trade-off is that they are free to molest children within their religious ranks, so long as what happens in the pious stays in the pious...

I'm part Blackfoot, but I can't prove it. The courthouse that held the documentation burned to the ground when my dad was a kid (the bloodline of that side of the family is Hungarian, Welsh, and Blackfoot).

The same thing happened to my wife too -- her dad is part Cherokee (and part Swiss), and the court burned to the ground when she was a baby. I really wish that computer records were available from back then, but it is what it is, right?!?! :?

Therefore, we do not qualify for anything because we have no proof.

My mother-in-law's side of the family is Greek, so we have fire from the Mediteranian, Cherokee, Hungarian, and Blackfoot when the families get together!!

No one has gotten seriously injured... YET!! :D
