we were playing a battle of the bands in the downtown park in Denver. Since there were over 80 bands on 3 stages...each band only had 3 minutes to set up and play 3 songs...then on to the next band. I play lead, and slide. Since I open tune the slide, I have 2 guitars on stage. I did not even have time to do a sound check, or see if the open tuning on the slide was ok....So on the third song, I just reached over, picked up my slide guitar and started to play. They had all instruments and amps miked...and had all bands playing loud...Unfortunately, my slide guitar was grossly out of tune... I started playing, and it sounded as sick as can be...and not just sick...sick AND loud. People in the audience were holding their hands over their ears..And there is no way to tilt the slide so it is more in tune....I got flustered...took a step backwards, and knocked one of the boomed microphones into a PA column..... it fell with an extremely loud thud, and then of course started feeding back.. We (Willing Heart)... looked more like a comedy act than a country rock banc....how emberrassing....oh well...we all (sooner or later) have that sort of a day...... :roll: [b]

Nope, never had a day like that. Things pretty much go as planned ALWAYS. Was there somebody there who perhaps had a little too much to drink?

Hosted to an open mic a cpl years ago. 'Twas a very cold night, & this guy showed up with his brand new Taylor. He was in the back room noodling around before I put him on stage, & I noticed he was way out of tune. When I suggested that he tune, & offered him a tuner, he snorted & said;

"I won't need to tune up. This is a Taylor!"

I let him play 2 tunes before I yanked his tone deaf ass off the stage. I think he was a little hurt, but whatchagonna do?
