Our band uses myspace to invite people to gigs.

We have one for this weekend and for some reason it switched the time from 9-1 to 4-8. I inputed the info myself and looked it over before I posted and then the one I sent to myself had the wrong time.

I just thought I would post that so anyone useing it might catch a mistake like that.

I do like the new function where you can do a mssive invite geographically, instead of inviting individually. Its very quick compared to the way I was doing it.

Myspace is a great tool, just watch how you use it. We have had great attendance results from myspace.

I have been building an Email list to use for announcements.
I have yet to put it to work. We'll see I guess.

Myspace is a fantastic TOOL for listing and communicating shows, music demos, videos, and updates to fans.

Versus a band website, the fans don't even need to worry about filing yet another 'favorite' in their browser for your site, they can just "friend" you on myspace (and now facebook) and be done. easy for them, and isn't that what it's all about? Making it easy for them, and then your fans feel appreciated, giving them more reason to follow your band.. and on top of that, THEIR friends see your band on the friends list, and bam.. you now have "exposure", so you won't have to accept that as a form of pay when playing out

But hey Ray operates our Myspace and our band website noisykungfuonline.com all I have to to is hold the band members communications together, oh and irritate the hell out of ya'll

And just for cnversation sake, in three years we have not booked any gigs via Myspace.
In about six months, our web site is starting to generate gigs.

MySpace is kindof one of those necessary evils But bands use it for a reason - it's useful.

I have a myspace page (myspace/fishermanbob). I have yet to use it. I've only got one friend on there so far (Craig Maxim). So if anybody wants to make a friend request feel free to log onto the myspace/fishermanbob page. Nothing there to look at ...yet.

And apparently the site admins. Dont care.

MySpace is great. I have met a ton of singers and guitarists, and harpists, and every kind of instrument and band imaginable.
I've made a lot of good friends there.

I am against myspace/facebook/twitter et al despite the fact that I utilize some of them. They are all part of a much larger machine that is raising an entire generation of young people who won't know how to communicate effectively. Have you seen what passes for writing at your local high school lately?

Yeah, and you can blame some of it on cell phone texting.

I think organizations such as these were set up purely for the younger generation weren't they? Sadly we have to use them and learn new tricks

Yes, but I don't want to go off on the full-scale rant. Nobody wants to see that here, and I have stuff to do.

Well I hear people dissing myspace all the time, But for my bands shows I send out around 500 invites per show, I ussually get around 40 RSVPs and about half of these people actually show up. With the new invite features I can invite these people in around 15 minutes, to me its some of the most effective direct marketing Ive found.

It also allows my band to put up pictures of each gig. People love to look at themselves. When I post pictures on bandmix of our gigs I ussually put pictures of me with the women that show up, but we post up huge amounts of pictures of people at the shows. A lot of our fans look forward to this and when I dont get them up they message when are the new pictures going up.

I feel anything that gets folks involved with my band is positive, regardless of my personal feelings.

I havent jumped into face book yet but there are means there to make people a fan of your band. I am going to get around to that.

I think a band should use every means at their disposal to publisize their activities. Myspace is free so I use it constantly.

A couple of new venues have contacted me for booking purposes that otherwise I wouldnt have known about. And these are paying gigs.

That being said we do seem to continue to pick up "friends" , and friends is cool.

I love MySpace.
Folks come to my page to see where I'll be playing next. Fans and friends give me continual feelback on new songs.
I've had a dozen lyricists contact me offering to write lyrics for my songs.
I have a hundred or so pics up - maybe 200, I don't know . . . folks say they love seeing them, though.
I can post 10 songs for free (no matter how big they are), but I usually keep it around 5 - 6 songs.
