As far as my mouth I carry on way too much sometime. So when it comes to addressing audiences I have to watch what I say.

Last weekend I went boating with my mom and dad. I was carrying on with the waitresses at this place we ate lunch. My mom kept saying hes a 12 yr old in a grown up body. Before lunch was over all these waitress's were sitting around me talking about Super Ninetendo off all things. Mom said after we left, John you basically insulted that girl and before it was over shes asking where you live and for your phone number. I didnt have the heart to tell her you should follow me around everynow and then.

I could go on and on about interesting stuff that happens to me. Like last sat after my gig I took these 2 21 yr olds to an afterhours club. One of them had just turned 21, but they didnt have the money to get in. I said since its your birthday and you hung out at my gig all night I will get you 2 in and buy you a round or two and you guys can hang out with your buddies who are there. This is honest I wasnt after anything. One of the gals got the hots for me, and Im not into that, Ive got a daughter not much younger than this gal. So after we had dance for a while and the other girl said she was really into me. I took a break and went back into the band room. There was an attractive blonde with what I thought was her boyfriend. So I went over to borrow an ashtray, and started a conversation with them. Turns out the guy was her brothers best friend and was just playing blocker for her. SHe started talking a lot of crap with me, and Im kinda warming up so I go over and stand by her. SHes all over me, finally she says are you here with anyone and I say yeah two gals. We keep talking and then I see the young gal that has the hots for me come into the room. SHe sees me with this gal all wrapped up and starts to turn away, I wave her over. The older gal says shes just a child, Im a woman and know what to do, and on top of that Im a nurse and have a caretaker personality. For 20 minutes these two kinda face off over me, ribbing each other back and forth. Neither has asked me if Im interested in either, they just assume I guess that the winner gets the prize. To really take things over the top my business partners 2 sons and brother in law come over to tell me bye and start listening to the conversation between these 2 gals. My partner has been hinting at me what did I do sat night, Ive been telling him that I stayed in and didnt do anything. I wont say who won or what happened, but its just another example of how my mouth gets me into some weird situations.

Ive got to learn some control.

Especially when a mic is involved!

More like Rock of Mush, Capt.

How was your weekend Capt, any interesting musical adventures you want to share?

Is your group still gigging? Or are you still auditioning with other groups?

An update to anyone thats interested.

Im finishing out this month on tuesday nights at the venue that the lady let me go from.

In October Im moving down the road to what I feel is a better venue and will play on monday nights again.

Last night I did my first totally solo gig without anyone else to help sing a few songs. I was doing great for the first 3 hours. When in walked these chicks I know. They came up and got my song book and picked out the hardest songs vocally for me. I did around 6 of these and ended with Nicklback Rockstar. My throat was toast. That Rockstar song may not sound hard, but man you have to spit the words out and cant come up for breath. I cut the night a little short. I went to the other club where they were doing Karoake and the club owner met me at the door and said your the guy that plays down the street. I said yes. He said I heard what happened with your monday night deal with ________. That wasnt right. He said I would like to have you come up here and play on mondays if you can. We worked out some financial arangements, not much but better than the other place and definitely enough to make me show up. I dont know how he sensed I wanted to play there. I had told a couple of his bartenders that I would love to play there on mondays. So I guess things kinda work themselves out.

I had decided a couple of monthes ago that I wanted to do a monday night thing every week, if for nothing else but a place to practice with an audience. Im still building my voice back up to be able to do this type of gig. Its interesting and I am going to keep working on my new original songs. I told him this and he said dude Ive heard of you and I trust you to entertain and keep whoever is here entertained. I felt like that was a great compliment. In this business compliments can be few and far between, so that made me feel good.

Kewl, JW.

Good news abounds.

I got asked to host an open mic, but I actually turned it down, for now. Can't guarantee that I'll be able to do it working around my family's schedules while I'm babysitting...eh...things will change eventually.

Yea, those "I know you can handle it" comments always feel good.
Glad it's working out for your John.

Thats great Philby, maybe you can work out your schedule to do that open mic.

The place my band is playing this weekend has asked me to do one, but Im afraid if Im not careful I would wear myself to thin.

Thanks Sans

You guys are the greatest and I wish you luck in your musical endeavers and life in general.

Rock On

I just love happy endings! :D

JW I know you are pushing it and that's a good thing. You keep referencing your throat. Luck after that will you? The rate you are going at this it will come back to haunt.

Much luck and I'm really glad you are getting what you want from what you are looking for.

Bestest.

Chippy.

Thanks Chippy as far as my throat I know my limits. But its been a few years since I was a lead singer. Doing the solo thing you have to carry the night. Im learning to pace myself and have picked a lot of songs that are easy on my voice. This is a whole new learning curve for me. Also Ive got to get my voice back in shape to handle a whole night. But., Im doing better than I thought it would go originally, plus Im adding some material that is more instrumental to take up some time.

Thanks for your post!
