Migge, everyone here has been a bad in a bad mood lately. It's all my fault because I got them talking politics instead of music.
What your doing is cool but everyone seems to be a bit more on edge and may be a bit harsh instead of helping. hang in there.

Hi Mig.

I like your stuff. This kind of sound is catching on in the pop realm, and I'm so thankful that it is because it requires talent to sing and to play. :D

Anyway, welcome to the forum. The song sounds good.

You might wanna sit down for this. Oh yeah! you're prolly sitting at your computer, aren't ya?

Okay - here's the harsh honest truth - I liked it muchly. You show a certain style in this lil thing. Nice honest-to-goodness natural voice, whether or not you're doing that staggery/jumpy thing with the lyric. Are ya playing the guitar on this? This doesn't really call for a big "IT" in it, imho. Nice, smooth & sweet is all the tune calls for. You delivered exactly that - nothing more, nothing less. I can't criticize you for any of that.

Now, gimme something that challenges you a bit, makes you show your range, brings out some power, shows some strong emotion...stuff like that there. If you can do this as well as you have, I'm sure you can deliver in other areas, vocally, too. (I'd like a meat-lover's special with extra cheese! Where the hell did that come from? Oh yeah! Haven't had my b'fast yet! Don't take it personal!) So far I'm liking what I'm hearing from you, but I wanna hear more before I can really make up my mind aboutcha.

I really like Valerie. You have a nice distinguished voice and I like the timbre of your axe. If you dream it it will come. Hopefully you have more music to share but sometimes after labor Day, I would like to play my flute with your recording...that's what I usually do with other music posted here. 8) Jazz actually covers a sh*t load of styles. There's the straight ahead, be bop, fusion, world, the list goes on and on so wallow in it. Go crazy, girl.

There is a lot of potential talent on this site and I think you'll enjoy it here. Now stick around here...don't leave me here by myself.

Listen to Mary, cuz she's one smart cookie - one of the few to be on here for any length of time without posting music & getting away with it for...how long was it, Mary? When she put it up it was worthy, though, for sure!

We do seem to be rather short of ppl of the feminine persuasion (it's a sausage fest in here....eeew!).

Anyway, welcome to the forum. Let's talk politics & religion & just forget all that music stuff for now, k? (J/K!)

Post more music. I like what I heard so far, so keep it coming or I'll send someone out there to beg & plead in my stead, & I know some REAL whiney ppl that can get even more obnoxious than I.

Sorry...I'm a little out of sorts...too much Labor Day weekend activity, I think.

I really LOVE your voice. I don't think this is missing any "it" factor at all. The song itself is crying out for more instrument power, bass and drums for starters. Beef up the rest of the song, keep your voice the same, and PRESTO you'll have the "it" factor on this tune. This song also would do well to have a saxophone solo in it somewhere. Having a sax in your band, especially a jazz band, would be a perfect compliment to your fine voice. You've got the "it" factor in my opinion, you just need stronger accompaniment...at least on this tune...

Shredd6 wrote:Hi Miggie,

I checked out an Amy Winehouse version on youtube 'cause I hadn't heard the song.

I think you have a better voice. The only thing that gets me is, I think you used a little too much of the broken phonetic style. It's something that should be done sparingly. My advice would be to smooth out some of the words where they're broken up. Not all, but a little less.

Other than that, it sounds awesome, you do have a great voice. Do you have a vocal coach?

Thanks! I think Amy has such an amazing voice! Ive never had vocal lessons, for about two years when I was 15, I sang in a chior off 100, I was the only white girl. Looked like a damn dominoe but thats the only training ive had hehe, and it was hella fun! My dad was a pastor so I did the whole sing in church thing my whole life *gag*. I started sneaking into the dives and pubs around 18 to sing and the rest is history..well im 23 so its all kinda current for me lol Thanks for the advice and ill defienetly work on my phonetic style and smooth out some of those rough spots! Thanks :)

well points off for me, I didn't realize it was a cover.

I still don't think the song has the "it" factor. I'd like to see you (Midge) do an original, something with some more wow on it.

Gong, we're not all that edgy, just being honest. I'm not going to stroke ego just to make myself feel better (or worse?)...

I hate when people bullshit me to save my feelings. I'd much rather someone be honest with me and tell me what I'm doing wrong, then them tell me I'm doing everything right and keep letting me make the same mistake(s) over and over.

Maybe the reason we are our own worst critics is because nobody else is honest with us?

IMHO, if you are going to post something here , then ask for opinions, you got take the risk that someone might give you advise on how to improve, which is okay. That is why I like coming here, the different personalities. I also like this place cuz the guys PMS just as bad as the ladies so be nice to them. I am always daydreaming of a day where we all meet for the first time and we all recognize each other, and we jam together like a vat of old friends... I believe that will happen.
