www.songplacements.com is a scam!
Don't do business with them.
I finally got hit up by them too, on BOTH my MySpace pages, with nearly identical emails, but selecting a different song on each page as the one with promise.
So, that meant I had to investigate them of course.
They try and get you to PAY THEM $400.00 and they tell everyone the same things, make the same promises, encourage in the same ways.
True Industry people NEVER make promises.
It's a hook to get you to pay.
I found out that they used to go by the name Hitt Music Group, and you can hit that URL up and see that it forwards you to their new page:
www.hittmusicgroup.com
I have read bad reviews about BOTH company names.
BUYER BEWARE!!!

Bro, they are fishing for money from artists. Nothing more.
The same (cough) "A&R rep" from them, solicited me on BOTH my MySpace pages, choosing one song off each page that supposedly has "potential" I should check my song plays to be sure, but I am betting they didn't even listen to them and just picked the song with most song plays.
Why would they do this?
Because it makes it SEEM like they actually listened to all the songs, and that they actually BELIEVE in your song. It also personalizes things, which is job #1 to successfully hook someone. When they are blanketing the internet, they are not really looking for talent, they are looking for VOLUME to get that $400 bucks from as many people as possible. Their success stories are lame. And it appears that they built a bad rep with the other business name, and so they changed it. Why would they do this? Because some well known blogs have trashed them as a scam.
Taxi has a reputation. They don't promise you anything. They offer a money back guarantee. They have long held relationships with established industry businesses and companies. They have professional reps who have BEEN in the business, who are filtering the songs for the best ones, and they GIVE FEEDBACK on how to improve the song. In other words, they are WORKING WITH YOU to help you get success.
I'm going to assume from your comment, that you have already paid them.
All I can do is wish you luck.

You don't seem to know how it works . . .
I know of 5 different Song Placement song-finders on MySpace.
They find qualifying artists, and tell the rep of their favorite song.
The rep listens to them, and sees if any songs are in a genre which is currently sought after.
If they like more than one song, (Jesus!) - that's not bad: it's good.
.
And - (saying it again, do I have to repeat myself?) they didn't promise me anything.
And -after joining, they've called me several times. I've been on the phone to 2 different people there for over an hour; they've called me 4 times to explain things and ask for my questions; and I had a ton of them. I've spent over an hour talking about how deals are arranged, song lengths, 2 specific movies . . . hell - I'm not going to try to condense an hour of information into a few sentences. Who has the time?
.
Hey - time will tell, at the end of the year, if I succeed with them.
Don't sweat it - it's my money, not yours.
At least I'm trying something . . .
One thing is certain: people who never risk succeeding will continue to fail.
Its been my experience here at Bandmix, that every offer/opportunity is always trashed, without fail. Everything is too risky. If I were to listen to the 'nay-sayers' here, my failure is guaranteed.
You can't make an omelet with breaking a few eggs . . .
And you can't get to second base if you keep one foot on first.
If I want to risk some money for possible success - don't sweat it - it's my money, not yours, eh?
.
One last point.
I'm not going to put myself in the position of defending them. I've already wasted too much of my limited time, typing this . . .
I spend more time on the fretboard, and less time on the computer keyboard than most folks here. (I spent 5 hours recording and mixing today, how much time did you spend?)
.
I see a lot of posts about poilitics, boobs, religion, the state of the union . . . Jesus Christ! Arguing for the sake of arguing . . .
I'm not just another know-it all; how the hell do folks have TIME for all that crap?
Every one of my posts is about music.
Unlike a few folks here, I really, truly, don't have time for gabbing . . .
.
Again - Don't sweat it - it's my money, not yours.

RM.
I'd put $400 on a drumkit I saw today. (Can't, glad you can). To be honest I don't trust the web, well people on the web. Heck I create some small portions of it.
1. I dislike salesmen.
2. I don't trust web salesmen.
Go spend your Franks. If you come up on the lottery wheel then I'll be left begging. No offence to you my man. I've learned a bundle from you. Cash is cash.
Good luck with your venture RM.
(I post about everything ~ Just the nature of my beast. I like people, mostly).
Be well.

Alan,
That's alot of insults brother. If I somehow came across as offensive, that wasn't my intention. I was trying to give you a heads up, or anyone else for that matter. The rates as I recall are in the neighborhood of Taxi, and if you handn't paid them already, it would seem safer to go with the known commodity.
I wish you luck sincerely. Particularly since you have already paid them. I certainly hope you get a return on your investment.
My mom has been after me for several years to join Taxi, but I haven't had the cash to spare to try them out. Maybe when I do, I'll give them a go, and we can BOTH be the guinea pigs and have a lot of information to compare with each other and share with others here. You know, see what, if anything, one does better than the other, or some perk or advantage one has over the other. It might be a good way for all the songwriters here, to see which one fits best.
But I hope you find success with it. I wouldn't hope for anything else.
And btw... It may seem that some are arguing for the sake of arguing, but personally, that is not my motivation or goal. I want to help people when I can. I often feel that my own life would have been a little less painful, had someone been there to show me alot of things I have learned the hard way. I want to share what I have learned with others, and I am enriched when people mentor me, and share things I haven't discovered yet, or looked at in a certain way yet.
My motivation is pure. Not egotistical or selfish in any way.
I just feel the world could be a better place, the more we help one another, and the more we learn from one another.

I was thinking abut this a little more this morning. Perhaps RM has it about right? I mean there are not too many people around these days, much less a musician to be able to afford it.
That might put RM in a good field with less pickings frankly. If it's a one time deal per year then it might not be a bad thing.

Hey, I like the folks here. We're good, Craig. So, yeah, I don't need to insult anybody; sorry if it appeared that way.
Nahh, I'm not angry at anyone.
Most folks here are 'real people.' (hand me that beer, would you?")
.
But I am discontent with the pervading pessimism here; and I will not apologize for being angry at that.
.
It seems that most people zoom-in on what can go wrong.
Hey, man, who needs to be exposed to a constant diet of discouragement?
Every 'possible good thing' seems to get beaten down . . . What type of charactor traits would that kind of constant exposure build in us?
. . .
I can figure out what can go wrong pretty easily too; we all can.
But - how about the rest of the picture, eh? I rarely, if ever, hear what can go right.
.
Maybe it's human nature for most folks to think of what can go wrong, - I don't know. I don't care.
But it's not my nature. I need to hear both sides, not just eveything that can go wrong.
.
The accepted consensus here seems to be that "we should all agree that it can't be done because everyone will cheat you."
I'm not gonna sign up for that attitude, "Don't try, because you'll fail."
That's a load of horse-pucky.
If we don't try, we HAVE failed. If we do try, we just might succeed.
.
So, yeah, I got a little riled, and I won't apologize for that; I'm 'real people, too.'
.
Hey, guys, we all understand that most opportunities in life usually require a sacrifice, right?
If we want to succeed, then it helps to associate with people who have the opportunites, or who are already succeeding.
I'd rather study success, than study failure.
That's all.
Hey, being a realist means to ALSO study 'success.'
Eh?
So, ok - this week I have 40 new leads and listings for possible opportunities in publishing, including recording, TV, 11 different movies, Content Libraries, Marketing & Promotions, some new publishing leads . . .
.
Yeah; there's no guarantee; So what?
That's STILL 40 possible opportunites I didn't have last week.
.
Monday I'll have another batch of new leads.
.
Nothing in life is free.
I don't care; I am willing to pay the price.

I get where you're coming from Alan.
I agree with you, there is no reward without risk.
Keep filling us in.
I also agree with Chippy that sometimes, getting in on something early on can be rewarding and put you higher up before the masses join in. As an example... everyone by now, knows who Tila Tequilla is. But we only know that, because she was one of the earliest members of MySpace and got a tremendous head start on her competition. She is reaping the benefits of that in a big way now.

My problem with things like this is that I was always forced into a sales position here because of my voice. I've only quit one band (I think?).
However I did quit a major managerial position based on moral and ethics. Basically I was asked to say things that I did not believe in.
The company folded a year later.

I just re-read my post . . . geez - what a pontificator . . .
Ok, I'm all relaxed now.
And I just played for 2 hours.
Well, I practiced for about an hour, and played for about an hour - all mixed together.
I don't often just play for myself . . .
I think what most people call 'practice' is really just them playing the same old songs over and over . . .
. . . my practice is all with stuff I can NOT do, - yet.
Once I can do it - I call it 'playing.'
. . . sore fingers.
.
My bassman just called up - had a bunch of ideas, some leads. . .
. . . other miscellaneous info for me.
And he was just getting ready to pop a bottle of wine and practice.
Now, THAT sounds good . . .
I have about 6 new songs I'd like to develope with him - we've got a showcase coming up; gonna pop over and play (and maybe practice) for a couple hours.
