A friend messaged me on myspace that he couldn't get his internet radio to come through his PA system clean. He uses it for practicing. I asked him what internet radio he was using and he told me "Pandora" so I checked it out to see if I had the same problem. I didn't, but I am now in love with it. I hadn't tried it before because, though I have DSL, it ain't as fast as it would be if I lived in town, and streaming video and some streaming audio has to buffer at times (even youtube). But, since it uses Adobe Flash, I have no buffering or dropouts. You can set up your own genre(s) stations simply by typing in your favorite band and it will play only similar bands. The first one I did was "Deep Purple" and it plays all the classic bands in that vein along with DP's newer stuff with Steve Morse. Then I did one with "The Refreshments". They were one of my favorite bands and, even though they split up, their singer/songwriter Roger Clyne has a new band "Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers" and they still have that "southwestern" flavor in their rock n roll. If you haven't heard them or much of "The Replacements", I urge you to check out Pandora. Google it and try it out. Works for all kinds of music from country to blues to metal. The unpaid version is great, and has little 30 second commercials occasionally (much fewer than real radio) and limited "Next song" features, which doesn't bother me at all. It's the best thing I've found, as I live in the technological black hole of the universe and can't even get Fort Smith radio stations on my home radio. Just heard "Cake" doing a great version of Kenny Rogers' "Ruby (don't take your love to town)". Falling in love with radio all over again, and they don't just play the songs that got radio airplay. Try it, you'll like it. :)

I agree that Pamdora is way cool. I just can't use it for much since I left the store with the DSL. This damned sat hookup gives me too few nuggets to work with, & the streaming stuff eats 'em all up. Can't get cable or DSL or even wireless out here in the wilds of the STICKland I live in, & yet I still get calls & mail offers for all that stuff. Pisses me off, it does, cuz the prices I pay for sat aren't that great, & there's better out there for less or the same cost. I ain't moving yet, though.

Yeah, Philby. I couldn't get DSL out here for a long time and finally tried the Satellite internet which cost more than DSL but the speed is closer to dialup. Shortly after, they made DSL available here. Happy am I! :)

Just checked it out. Pretty Cool Rat. Beats listening to normal radio garbage. Thanks for posting.

I dig Pandora, but my short attention span is a detriment and I get bored with my own programming!

Wow, Phil, you live down the road from me it sounds like :-)

A lot of places nearby have wireless where I live, but we can't get it because we live between some hills. I'm thinking about putting in a tower 1/4 mile away and relaying the signal down from it.

Yeah...it's like that. A lyric by a guy I know covers this, sorta -

"You can holler from a hill to a hill.
You can do it any time of the day.
You can't holler from a holler to a holler
Cuz there's always a hill in the way."*

I should change that to
"You can call 'er from a hill..."

LOL

RAT ,I think internet radio is great, but I didn't realize so many people were still struggleing just to get a good Inet connection.
But you know , sometimes I would love to trade in the cell phone, the tv, the cable, dsl, sat, and just go ride your tractor.VROOM,VROOM.

I'll bet you'd have more fun riding Crip's new bike, and he'd probably let you seeing as how he's going to be too busy playing that new PRS to ride anywhere. :)

Been using pandora for over a year now at work while I program. Love that app. My favorite list is a James Horner station to get movie soundtracks - love that kind of music.

I have pandora to thank for introducing me to both delbert mcclinton and shawn mullins...

when it first started up you could go snag the song on your drive if ya knew where to look... but those days are long gone...

not that I couldn't just hit record on somethin'... I know I know we should all support are fav artists anyway.

I bought shawn mullins stuff... and will probably buy some delbert eventually...

yeah, agreed... pandora is awesome. vnice for work!
