about the tune: just a little backing track demo I was making to show the sound of the fuzz face pedal I just built. I envision some neat things fitting on top of this track... and was wondering what you thought, where you see it going, how you would improve upon it.

On the alternating long decending riff, you might try going most of the way down, and ending with higher notes. Maybe... G E G E on 1 e and ..2

c) it's prob the verb you r talkin bout... I was trying to make it real muffled like I was actually in the shithouse... guess it's a joke that only I get! or did you really mean the mic? what about the harmony tracks - sm summation? I realize my vox are a 6 at best even on a great mic, but I try.

To determine the pedal's worth, I'd like to hear some higher register leads, more than just power chords & sustain, although that's important, too. How does it respond to feedback play, false harmonics & such? Just a suggestion. So far it sounds fine, but I noticed this on the other samples, too. I guess that's what I meant by hearing it in context - that fuller range play that you use them in with other instruments in a r/l band setting. They do sound like really good pedals. On Shiz, if you pan the echo/verb stuff to one side, & keep the other dry, your lyric can come through a bit better, although you might sacrifice some of that "bathroom feel" you're seeking. I get it, now that you explained it to me, & I feel a lil dumb for not getting it on my own...I just wanna hear the funny words...it's prolly just my cheap-assed spkrs anyway...hey! You should end this tune with a flourish..er...flush!

gtr/amp is a strat with a rio grande (bridge pos) plus a dummy coil, into a the pedal, then a crate v18 combo, recorded with an sm57 into my mackie.

It is legal to sell an exact clone as long as you do your own layout/artwork etc, and don't use any trademarks.
I've sold a few, mostly just to fund future projects/experiments/parts. I'm not making them in any great quantity - they are handmade -one by one, so it's pretty slow going.

wow, I like the flush idea. it never occurred to me cause I actually did think of the song while I was sitting in the sh*t house at my family's log cabin - and it had a real outhouse - no flushing!
I appreciate your comments/ideas on the vox... it's something I wrote/recorded ten + years ago so I'm not sure I have the tracks lyin' round but - perhaps I'll dig them out one of these days and try a remix.

when I say layout, I actually mean the printed circuit board layout not to be confused w the layout of the controls/etc. not sure if you were even making that reference but I thought I'd mention it.

afa patent: bbe green whatever, fulltone fulldrive, boss sd-1, and many many others are all based on the original ts808 tubescreamer. as a builder you can get a non-disclosure agreement that keeps anyone from posting your schematic, but few companies do cause half of them are based on something previous and eventually the word would get out that THE $250 KEELEY 2KNOB COMPRESSOR IS JUST A ROSS COMPRESSOR WITH A FEW PARTS SUBSTITUTIONS so whats the point.

and you might think: why would I pay $195 for a fuzz when I can buy a brand new fuzz face for $165?
well, when mass mfg make a pedal they can save themselves thousands by going with a resistor that costs three cents less, a cheap switch, a cheap pot, cheap wire, cheap jacks, cheap caps, etc. they also build them on a production line where they can save a lot in labor. Handbuilt stuff is usually geared towards folks who don't mind spending a bit more to get a much superior and more unique product.



afa my pedals, it costs me anywhere from $45 - $85 in parts for just about any single pedal... and it usually takes 5+ hours to build, so I just build what I want and if/when I sell it I try to recover as much as possible. I'm selling a few on ebay right now, and I'm asking in the $120 range for them. I've also got a craiglist ad for another one that just has a factory pain job for $70... but I'm loosing money on any one of those even if I pay myself just $10 an hour.

that's very kind of you to say chippy. afa where it's going, I've been trying to practice gtr and get my chops back up to the point where I can play what I hear in my head for it... obviously a fast solo would work well, and I have some ideas about going back and forth between minor and major pent, just haven't gotten it down yet.
also I think I'll do a nice key change and try to solo over the transition.

I could hear some lyrics over it... but I'm just not a punk singer, perhaps I'll toss it over on musicianscollaboration.com and see what the folks there could do.
