Chip made a comment on another thread about 'Bandmix Ghetto.'
Sans didn't get it - do you?
.
It goes right back to knocking on the right doors . . .

No idea, Alan. A lot of his posts go right by me. Sometimes I think I'm a real dummy. Other times I'm sure of it!

Sans,
I agree. There are many fine musicians here.
But - almost always - they are not in the same state, eh?
.
philbymon,
You need to meet more musicians who are local to you.
And you need experienced musicians, able or (willing) to play several styles of music.
Any music schools nearby? Recording studios?
.
And . . .
Hit up Craigs list ads related to the genre you want to play.
Not all ads are directed at you. Who cares?
Say - you're looking for a guitarist.
And they're a professional gigging band - in your style of music - looking for a female vocalist, or whatever.
.
Who cares what they are looking for?
Their ad is a LEAD . . .
Hit'm up, anyway.
.
Here's what you say, it's easy . . .
"Hey guys, I know you're looking for a girl singer, but I'm looking for a guitarist. Know of any? Send 'em my way - and I'll keep my eyes open for a singer for you."
Wham-bam, thank you mam.
It's free, and you might get lucky . . .
Be sure to think big - target the most successful bands, and just make friends . . .

Hadn't thought of that approach! Thanks Alan!

Yes Alan, building a band from Bandmix was a long hard exercise for me as well. Looking through the area profiles in search mode these days it would seem an exercise in futility. :(
I guess I am so comfortable with the band I am in I forget that others are not so lucky.
Still, I was able to not only build our band, but book some gigs, as well as make a lot of improvements due to technical info and support I have recieved though this online community.
I live in a small town in redneckia county Texas.
Surley if my efforts to build a Christian Rock Band can bear fruit, those whom live in the larger metropolatin areas can do the same in the genre' of their choosing.

Alan - just got off the horn with my drummer. We're on the same page on this guy. We KNOW he can do the stuff, & do it well, but Mike (drummer) seems to think that he has some serious confidence issues. I thought much the same, so I let Mike chew his ass last week, while I simply told him I was disappointed in him. (I think that bothered him more than anything I ever said to him.) Mike seems to think that he'll pull through, though, now that the pressure's on.

We have agreed that this is our last week working with him if there aren't significant improvements, though.

*heavy sigh*

Time will tell, I suppose...

Good luck to both of you . . .
Don't let anybody (including yourself) hold you back, eh?
.
Hell . . . I just had a vison:
One of us flipping burgers, another one popping a beer, and someone else picking up his guitar to play on the back porch of our little 10 -15 member Band-mix party . . .

When I went to see Billy Mclaughlin in concert 2 weeks ago, he said something that really stuck in my mind. He said that he puts everything on credit cards then works like hell to pay them off. You can't be a musician without being in the music business. It's hard work and we get to do it. :) I need 3 flutes. I need a bass flute, an alto flute and a professional model soprano flute. I know that I can get the alto and bass at a somewhat affordable price but I will really need to work hard for the professional flute. I will be performing at a bar on Friday and I will get to play all alone for a while. I better get that part of the show ready. I need to get my butt off the puter and start rehearsing.
