agreed we dissagree on kiss. I didn't like them for the makeup for the record... perhaps that's why I'm still a fan? (not still in terms of recent music... still interms of old stuff)

boygeorge... yeah there were tons of ppul dressing like him and legions of cure fans dressing like whats his dick... crazy hair.
"killing an arab" -wow that was good stuff
I'm talking about the fans you didn't see checking them out. I guess there's no way to quantify that group, but whos to say his dress didn't limit his audience to those who would dress like that?

I guess you can say johns "newer look" was a look, but then so was everyones, even bruce and bob's. So if wearing tshirt n jeans is qualified as 'dressing up' then I guess I'm with you. Everyone must wear clothes! Hell I guess I'm in costume when I'm wearing whatever I wear. And to some extent that's true... I think that answer skirts the question of importance of dressing up. I would qualify dressing up as wearing something on stage that you wouldn't wear off stage. Something that would seem out of the ordinary, accept on stage. A costume. Something different than you just being yourself.
So I'm gonna revise my understanding of this topic to reflect the idea that if yer just wearing something you'd wear in everyday life... your not dressing UP. Even if you dress like a complete freak show in real life. That is you... and not a costume. So does this rule true in both theory and practice?

Then "dressing up" is ok too, as long as it is consistent with what you want to say in your performance. I highly doubt Elton John trapsed about London in all the get ups he had on during his wild days.

In general, the "performance" part of playing over the last 15 years or so has suffered terribly. Just this hombre's opinion. And for the record, it's not just clothing but the playing performance as well. What an enormous snooze, most of these groups. Better just to get the CD in most cases.

"I'm into leather."

A couple more quotes from the Wood.

Those are all good points. Dressing down is also dressing up I suppose. Image and music share something in that. Some music is elegant in its complexity, some in its simplicity. The trick is matching the image to the sound.

Irminsul your right on. I agree. performance has suffered... mostly at the expense of the music performance for the need of the coreographical performance in this hombre's hermanos opinion. I do agree tho allbeit for different reasons.

OKAY! I was an english major, the word is spelled "dysentery" as in various intestinal inflammations characterized by abdominal pain and intense diarrhea ... I refuse to go on with this, yuk! I do agree with you IRMINSUL about the last 15 years!

I don't know that music and musicianship are suffering so badly. Somebody prolly said the same thing 30 years ago. There's some interesting ideas and sounds floating around out there, you just have to know where to look...and I'm not saying that I do.
