OK, I know this topic has been brought up before but, I've had it. Today I went to check out my tenth or eleventh good prospect on Bandmix over the last 5 days .....and guess what. No audio samples on their site. Not a one. I am left to guess whether they sound like Vladimir Horowitz or sour owl sh*t.

I can't figure out why musicians won't post the most necessary bit of information to this site - yes, more important than their bio or favorite foods. Music is about sound. Sound comes from an audio file. This isn't rocket science. And there are SCADS of free software out there for almost anyone's system to record their music and convert it to mp3. Even more sites that will step by step you through the process. It just couldn't be easier.

To the management of BANDMIX - I propose that it's time to require at least one (1) music upload when someone registers on this site.

To those who still piss and moan about the musicians' contact/premium account debacle - what good does it do to finally get in touch with that perfect musican only to find out you have no idea what in the hell they sound like?

OK, soap box off. Please consider this.

There could be many reasons for this

1. they could have dial-up. it might take them 5 hours do upload something that takes you ten minutes

2. copyright... maybe they don't want to upload their material in fear that someone may steal it

My songs have taken me about 20 -25 minutes to upload on dial-up.
I don't know why I bother, though - only a few people here take the time to listen.
Hey - so what if they have dial-up? So do I, but I listen to others . . . and, yes, it takes me about 20 - 25 minutes to download their songs.
.
Hey - I just open several other windows, simultaneously - things aren't slowed down all that much . . . .
.
I just want to hear what other people are doing.
.
In the last year or so, perhaps 6-8 people here listened.
In the same 1 year, I have had about 25 - 30 people from OTHER sites come here to listen to my music.
.

but what about the issue with people stealing the music? not the downloading part, but people taking the idea and claiming it as their own?

"Music is about sound. Sound comes from an audio file."
So doesn't their look count for anything? Just kidding. I won't start that up again!

"but what about the issue with people stealing the music? not the downloading part, but people taking the idea and claiming it as their own?"
-I have given this some thought myself... and I figure... if someone wants to rip me off, and I only have one song worth ripping off, oh well. If you have more stuff that's good... let them rip you off on the one song. then you could sue them and bring all kinds of attention to your stuff. If your really good and your music gets out and someone makes a bunch of money on it... they are eventually going to come looking for the source.

ps it's not a bad idea at all to require uploads... but here's the prob...
ppul are going to record 8secons of silence or them saying "yippee" and upload it just to get on here... then you'll have to wade through hundreds of "empty songs" to find the ppul that actually uploaded.
Add to that the fact that there may be some people who have a lot to offer the site but cannot upload any original material, like Davis22.

Ouch! LOL

Good point, but here's my answer to that....if they were going to all the trouble to upload silence, or a fart, why wouldn't they just upload their music instead?

I'm glad to see this getting discussed.

are you saying farting is not music? hmm. there goes half my copywrited material.
I think ppul might do the 'record silence' thing cause it's much easier than putting yerself/yerart out there on a limb. It's also easy to do in comparison to recording actual material.
I can see that by speaking sarcastically most of the time... I have no ability to come across sincere anymore... which is what I was really trying to convey with my remark about davis -believe it or not. DISCLAIMER: THE FORMER STATEMENT WAS NOT SARCASTIC.

I would think a better tactic would be to have a "musicians w material only" sub area where only ppul with validated posts are allowed to reply to threads.

I think Jayvocgr said it best. Not everyone can upload material, like me (thanks for the plug, MrMikeV). And this website would be a lot worse if uploads were required. It's bad enough we can't even contact people to meet up and find out in person if we're compatible. Instead of being an upload-elitist, why not advocate free messaging instead of regulations that would bar even more people from using this site? If you're a 'one-man show' then who the hell cares anyway?

I think davis might be on to something there... free messaging for ppul who post a song...
but admittedly, I like the idea of an elitist club... I've always wanted to be in something like that(lol)
AFA one man show... I'll try to answer what I think yer asking...
because most of us are 'One Man Shows' not by choice, but because it was the 'path of least resistance' to getting your/our music out, and it was a notch up from a 'zero man show'.
again, sarcasm comes so naturally for me, I can hardly tell when I'm using it any more... it's effortless. Surely I will win some sort of "most sarcastic member ever" award if the gods bestow any justice on this site.
BTW... it's good to have you back davis (no intended sarcasm)

I think that's a good Plan B. Still seems like it panders to laziness or lack of ambition but, what the hell. The world is far from perfect.

Oh my GAWD, I'm an UPLOAD ELITIST! The horror....

But sarcasm aside, that's not a bad idea either. Anything that give a prospect something to go on rather than "I'm a bitchin' singer - no, really!"

MY WIFE WANT'S ME OFF THIS COMPUTER RIGHT NOW... SHE HAS STUFF TO DU, BUT DANG IRMINSUL, I AM GONNA PISS MY PANTS OVER HERE!
You may just be a contender for "most sarcastic poster ever"... I'm gonna have to keep my eye on you.

but he also may be one of the most intelligent. I enjoy reading his posts, that's probably the main reason I'm still on Bandmix. (And yes I'll be uploading some of my tunes on here soon.) Later...fisherman bob

Sarcasm is the new sincere!

p.s. I loved the bombastic response to my comment, Irminsul (upload elitist haha).
