General Music Chat

I'm a lyricist and I am looking to form a band. I can write lyrics but also just help out with things like finding gigs, creating a logo, making T-shirts, selling CD's, and stuff like that. But other than sites like these, where can I advertise? Would making posters be a good idea? But sadly I don't really live in a big town or city where there is like a record store or anything like that where it's an obvious place to advertise. Well, I suppose there is a shopping center type thing not too far from my house with a lot of stores. Even if none of them sell CD's or anything, would it still be a good idea to put posters there? And what would be a good idea to include on the poster? What else could I do?

Sorry, I'm totally overloading you guys with questions. xD If you could give me some helpful tips I will love you forever. =P

Where to start?

You can find a band / bandmates via Bandmix search function.
It is very time consuming and frustrating but we have too many success stories including NKF to discount this means.

You say you sing? You must have samples of your work posted !
Or do you just write? Still, find someone to sing your work and post it.
The best way is to get off the computer, get out of the house and meet people at the venues, the music stores, one on one networking.

Grocery stores, laudramats and churches are places to start. The corner music store is another good start. But first, get you some business cards.

Go out there & meet some musicians. Where do they go, & where can you talk to them without interrupting their work?

#1 - open mics - be gregarious & chat 'em up & take samples of your work with you

#2 - music stores - less pressure on them here, but they're bound to be distracted as they seek out that new instrument

#3 - gigs - buy 'em drinks during their breaks (many musos like this, & will take the time to talk to you as long as the liquids keep coming)

#4 - on line is a lsat resort

Singer/Songwriter Nights become a regular at these.

The problem with pitching to bands is if they are original they will be into writing their own songs. I really dont think you will get anywhere with bands unless you become a member.

If I was just a writer I would write songs copywrite them, get professionals to record them and then start sending them to every publishing company that I could get info on.
