If I play it with any of the 40-50 most common chords - it sounds wrong.
Best guitarists I have ever played with absolutely SUCK when it comes to simplistic music, when they try to use the odd chords & strange voicings. You gotta feel the simple as well as the complex in music, imho.
Dim, aug, flat 5th's, & 9th's have no place in traditional bluegrass! You just can't teach that to some ppl, esp when they're oh so educated. LOL
I can't tell you how often I've run into this, & it never fails to amaze me...
I ain't saying that would happen with you RM, I'm just saying it happens a lot with other, otherwise great, muso's. (I made that very mistake, myself, for awhile, until I heard some recordings of what was actually happening. It was awful. I don't do that anymore.)
Just because something is musically sound, it doesn't mean that it will sound right.
