Hey, I read that they blended firefly DNA with those decorative tobacco plants so they glow in the dark. No kidding.

And fish DNA is mixed with some edibles, to ward off disease.

They actually "shoot" DNA from completely different species, & animal to vegetable, to "see what sticks." Fascinating stuff.

McDonalds was selling genetically altered potatoes in their fries for a few years, until there was a public outcry.

Personally, I dunno how I feel about all of this crossing of stuff. It does sound awfully dangerous if they get it wrong, & it escapes. Just imagine some poisonous strain blending with our corn! It's neat, in a way, but pretty damned scary when you think about how something is sure to escape, like the one mentioned by Craig, above...

I got a book that mentions this stuff around here, somewhere...

To get some animal DNA to stick to a plants DNA, they attach it to a virus first, Ecol i is one that they used. Though unsure what this could cause down the road, the FDA allowed it to pass. On top of that, with such dangerous experimentation going on, the public tried to get a bill passed that such genetically engineered foods had to be labeled as such. It was turned down. The best you've got on your side are some of the organically grown foods can be labeled "free of genetic engineering. Lots of unlabeled foods are still safe, but as generic engineering takes off in the food industry, it's gonna be a crap shoot whether you're getting safe food or not.
Scary ain't it? :x

It's already a crap shoot.
The aforementioned Mc Donalds imports their beef from Argentina.
OMG!!!
I would eat my dogs before I ate anything from Mc Donalds.
