that's a tough one bro!
I have to say I also like the ring of.... Halay Amano... just a thought!
Maybe you can mention that it stands for house of sharks during the show... fuk it, start some cheesy assed shark bite dance. it'd be a blast if your not too hung up on not looking cool.

How about The Band That Kicks Ass? I always wanted to call one of my bands that but your band probably qualifies for it a little better.

IF You decided to change (big mistake IMO) House of Sharks
or House o Sharks would deff be better than H O T S. Then again HOTS would be kinda cool too.

I dunno, sans - House Of Sharks would just be initialled as "HOS!" Is that better than "HOTS?"

It's been pretty interesting so far. On the other forum, House of Sharks is becoming the preferred choice by a lot.

At first it started out about 50/50, but as people started thinking about the marketing aspects of the 2- names, HaleAmano was hard for them to remember and spell. And House of Sharks actually put an image in their head that they could envision. And well.. Since it's in English form, easier for them to spell. That seems to be the general consensus of the other forum anyway.

I'm glad I did bring it up to get the different views and opinions I've received so far. It's been some very good insight to say the least. Thanks again everyone.

Given the two choices, House of Sharks. I also like Jimmy's thought of Sleeping With Sharks, or something to that effect.

Good luck with the new name search Shred.

Shredd,
I may have missed something here, but, why the name change anyway?
Hale Amano is a bit cumbersome, but you guys have played a number of gigs under that moniker, so, unless you've been getting some kind of adverse reaction from the audience, why change it now?

just curious

As I alluded to previously, If a name change is deemed necessary, I'd press for going back to "One Day Broken". THAT"S a million dollar name! :)

Howlin', there are guys in the band who are frustrated with the band name because it commonly gets misspelled on fliers and ads. And when that happens we lose would-be new fans. Because they try to look up the name of the band they saw the night before and whatever misspelled name was used won't show up in a search. Try searching up "Halemano" and see what happens.

99% of the time it's misspelled, and most people don't know how to say it. And as a result, can't remember it. Even Hawaiians have a hard time saying and spelling our name.

So that's what prompted the question. Since the name means House of the Sharks, the bandmembers who are in favor of a name change are willing to meet the ones who aren't half way.

Shreddo,

Thanks for the explanation. Obviously a good working band in today's competitive gig environment needs to consider market strategy
Your bandmate's reasoning seem sound, so perhaps a name change is in order.
Might I suggest useing the more mnemonic "House of Sharks, as the dominant name, and retaining "Hale Amino" as a sub title, sorta' like just the opposite of what you already have. This way, you won't disenfranchise any followers who may have become partial to the name Hale- Amino.

just a thought,

:? The thing w/that name is that it is hard to remember and where did it come from.? You say it is Hawaiian but you dont give the definition for that, only a loose translation in Spanish. I ran a worldwide definition search and got nothing back in all languages. House of Sharks is O.K. , but what genre are you in.? METAL.? Our band name is simply F.K.R. , Which is an acronym and I would tell you what that means but were having a contest to see which fan can figure it out first for backstage passes. and no, the word F--k Has nothing to do w/ it. I would go w/ House of Sharks as it is easier to remember and when people look for you on the web it will make it a lot easier to find you. It is true that most people will get frustrated and quit looking if there first search doesn't return the thing they want or they have to scroll five pages. to find it. they just wont do it. Another thing to think about as you go out onto the web is to have someone who knows HTMl code as you can embed key words into the background of the sight to direct traffic there like, Heavy Metal or Deathcore, which has become a popular search and also a popular description for hardcore metal. I would go w/ the members of your band to find something that works easily on the marketing end and is easy to remember. Some times you got to can the personal tastes and look toward what is actually going ti get you in front of an audience in the easiest way. One up and coming Metal band I have worked w/ is T.I. 22. That`s there stage name and it is on everything they have along w/ the full name which is Titanium Soldier. T.I.22 however is easy to remember. Want to check them out go to ti22band.com . HaleAmano is a reggae band, and a damn good one from what I've heard.
We usually just refer to ourselves as NKF.
Noisy Kung Fu is a little cumersome in casual conversation.

NFK works a lot better for me but I am confused. Your post says Halemono is a Reggae band but your sight is christian AHHHH ??? Classic.? No offense, its good music only its not Reggae.

Concerning one of my bands in the early 80's, A WFMU DJ named us "Tentative Relationship" after he played one of our songs on air, because we could not seen to come up with a name. We had no idea what we were going to be called until he announced it on the radio. I have come to dig that name, and loved that band. ( first tune on my Bandmix profile is an example of the notorious quartet, yours truly on vocals and organ.)

anyways....

As we built a following, people simply started referring to us as "T.R."

Thats what sometimes happens to cumbersome names like "Tentative Relationship, or Noisy Kung Foo, or Hale-Amano"
