I have been looking for a rock band of any sort to join for two years and haven't hit one yet it sucks cuz I have a ton of ideas but I can't truly bring them out without a band. Is there an easier way to find a group or what?

You don't need a band these days to present yourself and your ideas. I would recommend recording some of your ideas and then posting them in a place where they "people looking for musicians" can find them to see if your ability/creativity match what they are looking for. If so, I'm sure they'd call you in to check you out in person.

Maybe you don't know how to play any instrument & can't sing that's why bands don't need you.

You should just write the songs on your own with a guitar or piano...in the real world of music, chances are you are going to be asked to play a couple songs at a radio show acoustically anyways...at the very least you are going to have to give the other musicians an idea of what you have in mind and structure written down or recorded so they can follow it, besides humming songs to them.

Many experienced musicians have seen the millions of dreamers that talk a lot but don't actually do anything when it comes down to it.

To get band members, it all depends on what you are shooting for... A band that plays gigs just on weekends and does a CD...if you plan on selling CDs and making money off it...it turns into a whole new ball game then.

I've seen some of the most amazing bands record and make unreal CDs...but if they don't tour to support the CD, it just won't make a lot of money ever if that is your goal.

So you should give people an idea right up front on the goals so they know...out of 1000 musicians I know that play out on a regular basis in bars and clubs probably only 5 of them are in a position they can actually go on a tour.

So to attract that kind small limited people, you are going to have to impress the hell out of them. Just saying you have ideas is not enough, everyone has ideas...it's the people that can actually create their ideas that are the rarities.

Cheers and Good Luck

All good advice except the whole can't play an instrument thing. Its not that I feel I must have a band to promote myself its just when I'm writing my music I hear the drums and the bass and the vocals I hear the band and that's what I want. And for the record I can play decently that's not the issue, I would post some of my songs but I'm browsing with my blackberry and I don't think I can

I know what you mean there, man. I've ALWAYS got music running through my head and when I'm jamming by myself on guitar, I can hear the drums and bass lines in my head.

I enjoy playing/writing with a band, but I get more done when I'm by myself. A band can be a real drag and I can't stand waiting for ppl.

The reason why I've decided to build my recording studio in my basement and make a solo project, was because I got real tired of dealing with musicians who are not as committed as I'm. Plus, the whole "who's better than who" gets really annoying, too.

Life is too short and I'm not the type of guy who spends his time waiting or depending on others, to accomplish something!

The only time I enjoy having a band, is during jams and gigs!

I just hear voices. Maybe I need a tinfoil hat?

I hear that! Tho in my limited experience, it wasn't so much the company - I pretty much like everyone and have been fortunate enough to rehearse a little with some really great people - for me it always boils down time committment. A family man has about 3 hours a night, from about 9:30 pm to 1:00 am to do stuff, and that's a pretty hard schedule to set practices to and learn material ;) I'm a little slower than the average bear.

that's true. Conflicting work schedules is the most culprit. We can't jam this day coz i'm working & vice versa, that's a real drag.
