Actually, I don't like demeaning "liberalism" because I am liberal in many ways and conservative in many ways. Depends on the issue. Depends on which view represents more truth.

But the whackos have made the term "liberal" a pejorative. Just as the other whackos have made "Republican" a Pejorative. Even Republicans are separating themselves from the term and making sure people know they are "conservatives" before they are Republicans.

I think we should start a new political party and call it the "Centrist Party" or something similar, because poll after poll, show most Americans to be in the center on most issues.

The whackos have their hooks in both parties and it makes them both look foolish.

Republicans: "Abortion is murder.... unless it is rape or incest of course!"

Democrats: "We'll get out of debt, by assuming even more debt!"

The one bright light, is that more and more, normal citizens on BOTH sides of the aisle, are beginning to loathe government, no matter who's running it. Maybe that will lead them to actually do something about it, and fix the problems. Of course, the powers that be, likely won't allow that to happen.

Loathing the gov't isn't doing us any good, either. I've been doing that for YEARS, man! LOL

And let's face it - the Reps can't use the "tax & spend" arguments anymore, after the last 8 yrs!

I quite like the true meaning of the term "liberal." I consider myself a forward-thinking person. But I don't like to be labelled, with that or any other, cuz I'm extremely conservative about my rights as a citizen, & lots of other stuff.

But when it comes to the point of this thread, my country makes me ill & it won't make me better, & that pisses me off! Lots of things they said were perfectly okay when I was a child have turned out to be not so okay, from cigarettes to insulation to processed foods to insecticides to god only knows what-all, & yeah, these things I've experienced are affecting my health. The reason it's affecting my health is cuz THEY said it was good. They were WRONG. They should help with my health issues. THEY took it upon themselves to be the watchdogs of the general public's health. They treat criminals better than they treat me in this area, & I am quite incensed about it, & I'm ready to leave if things keep getting worse here. And I truly believe that nothing will be done in my lifetime, as long as there's a profit to be had by some rich asshole who holds out meds & treatment for only the rich, which is where I'm seeing things going...(can you say 15,000% profit?)

They've been waving the healthcare flag for almost 20 years. 20 frikken YEARS! WHEN will something be done? And WHO will it be done for? HOW many add-ons will get stuck to any bill that gets passed, & how long will that set us back while they argue the petty sh*t they dump into it?

I'm really very tired of USA, LLC. It's time they owned up to the maistakes they made in the past with health issues. It's time they started to take care of "we, the people," like they are supposed to.

Until they do, as far as I'm concerned, it's the US of CRAP. (Sorry, JH!) And I will have no scruples about my taxes or my illegal activities, as long as I'm not hurting anyone. Screw 'em all! They don't give a damn about us, the ones who pay the bills, & have to accept the consequences of their screw-ups.

When insurance co's can deny claims for any reason they feel like, & the gov't then protects the interests of those co's with SEAT BELT LAWS, the ppl should kick some gov't ass! That one made me sick.

When co's steal from ppl, & make stupid errors which cost ppl their entire lives' savings & retirement plans, & the gov't does next to nothing about it, I feel betrayed.

Frankly, I'm not very happy here. The more I think about it, the worse I feel toward this once great nation. And the more I see of our leaders' attempts to "fix" things, the more depressed I become about it.

You should know me enough that I am not anyone's whipping boy or even any country's whipping boy. I have expressed our country's sins here many times.

I am not trying to suggest that because we buy oil, we are somehow "good". It's not unlike Teddy Roosevelt, which I mentioned earlier. We wanted a canal in Panama. We negotiated a treaty for a 99 year lease, but when Columbia changed their minds and wouldn't approve it. We supported (some say started) a coup, most likely promising the people in Panama that they could then enjoy the revenues from the project for themselves, without it going to the government in Columbia first. We were selfish for accomplishing what we wanted in an underhanded way, and the people of Panama, were acting in their own selfish interest to go along with it. But... we later paid off Columbia for meddling.

This is not so different.

We want cheap oil. We'll pay you for it, but if you try and strangle us economically, you can bet, we'll find a way to get what we want, or create a way.

America is not good. America is not evil.

It is more benevolent with it's wealth and power than any previous nation in history has ever been.

That doesn't make it "good" but it doesn't make it an oppressive "ogre" either.

What happens when America fails? What happens when we stop respecting the good it does do, because we are so hung up on the stuff that is not so good?

Who will fill America's shoes?

Extreme liberals for decades have been slowly but surely, working to "liberate" the minds of our youth. Particularly in colleges. They are scary.

Extreme religious conservatives would like to see America become a theocracy. Also scary stuff! Particularly because when they fill the churches with the statement "This country was founded by Christians with moral principles and taking God out of the courts and out of the schools and off the money, will surely anger God and rmove his blessing from us!" - Yet, what they conveniently leave out, is that these religious settlers were coming here in the first place, because they were FLEEING something else. Namely, state sanctioned religion. They are unwittingly trying to create, what the original settlers were RUNNING AWAY FROM!!!

And liberalism on crack is FRIGHTENING!

Are you aware that legislation is going to pass, or has already, that will stop you from selling a house if it has not been updated to meet green standards?

My best friend died in agony from lung cancer. There was no need for either the cancer or the horrible treatment, other than our inhumane stance on pain killers, & corporate profits.

My wife has had issues with the effects of an insecticide that she was exposed to on a US Air Force base, but they don't acknowledge their role in her health problems. No, it wasn't the gov't's fault, was it? How COULD it be? They never make mistakes or pay for them!

My father died in severe discomfort from COPD at the age of 59, & there wasn't any good reason for it, other than corporate profits.

This is the extremely short list.

Don't tell me America isn't evil, when I see these things happening, & I see our elected officials doing NOTHING! NOTHING! Cuz I ain't buying it. THIS STUFF IS EVIL! And as long as it continues, the evil continues to grow. Profits mean more to our gov't than our health & well-being.

When they get found out, they play pass the buck, & continue to do little or nothing.

Our gov't's actions with other ppl's can't be better than they are with us, can they? Considering the evils we perpetrate on our own, I'm not surprized at the world view of us, other than to be surprized that it isn't worse!

You have to know I'm fully aware of the Catholic Church's persecution of Copernicus, Galileo and others for their heliocentric publications, and the horrors of the Inquisition.

Do you somehow approve of the Catholic Church's persecutions?

Because, though you don't realize it, you are saying that because the Catholic Church, has previously committed such offenses, then Muslims should be allowed to do the same.

I know what you "think" you are saying, which is:

"Other religions have committed attrocities or forced their will through violence, so Islam doing the same, makes them no worse."

But the unavoidable conclusion to your statement is:

- Muslims should be allowed to commit the same offenses that other religions have.

Because otherwise, you are saying they should be opposed. And when you say that, you are getting closer to agreeing with the position that there are things worth meddling in. Because... "I" am opposing such attorocities, while "you" are JUSTIFYING them because they have been committed by other religions in the past.

But your analogy lacks merit in any case.

How do you compare something that happened hundreds of years ago, to something occurring TODAY in a modern age, with the benefit of broad acceptance of scientific understanding?

It would be like you were with a group of people, and everyone watched as one person walked over to an unknown object and touched it. And it melted his fingers off. And then, even though everyone had just watched what happened, another guy walks over to the same object and also touches it, and his fingers also melt off. And someone says to the 2nd guy "Dude, you are REALLY stupid!" and you defend the 2nd guy, saying "Hey man, the first guy did the same thing, so this guy is no more stupid than the first guy!"

But of course, the first guy didn't have the benefit of history, whereas the 2nd one did.

To suggest that offenses committed hundreds of years ago, in a less scientific age, when religion-states were common, is comparable to a religion committing similar attrocities (and worse) today, in a modern age, with the benefits of history's lessons, and the principles of religious tolerance and separation of church and state covering much of the globe, is not an enviable position to hold.

Additionally, the Catholic Church has never had an official doctrine of covering the globe by force, whereas Islam does.

Islam was literally spread through the points of swords. Muhammad himself after forming his religion, turned warrior and took Mecca by force, leading an army of 10,000.

Beginning in violence, one can understand how it continues in violence.

No Dave, I think YOU are missing the difference here my friend. A difference of degrees is a very serious difference. If you have a gay rights group for example, and one of their members is found guilty of child molestation, but relative to the number of members, it turns out that this was a more isolated instance, and then you have a group like NAMBLA in which sex with children is actually part of their agenda, then you can understand how one is far more sinister than the other.

As to Northern Ireland, more people were killed by Islamic terrorists on 9/11 alone, than in 36 years of conflict in Ireland.

It's all the same to me, killing and hurting ppl in the name of religion. No matter who kills more than who, or who is more sinister than who...they are all the same to me!

Yes, there are a lot of extremists killing ppl. They are not killing ppl to convert them. They are not killing random ppl to convert us, either, as I'm sure they realize this methodology won't work for that...

So why are they killing ppl?

Well, as I said previously, they are fighting the world powers that interfere with their lives. When a country invades another, or tries to control an entire region to acquire their natural resources by various means, this causes ill feelings, to put it mildly. They are bound to lash out, to fight back. How does one fight a superpower? Any way he can. And he continues to do whatever he deems necessary until his message gets through - remember "Don't Tread On Me?" Our own country was formed after a superpower of the time tried to steal our resources, & force us to pay extravagent amounts of money to buy things that only England would provide, while they controlled our local gov'ts & taxed us unfairly.

The American colonists were considered low & cowardly because they used guerrilla warfare at a time when war was played like a gentleman's sport. Ppl stood in straight lines & fired upon one another until only the winner remained. Kinda stupid, really, if you ask me. However, the colonists' tactics won out in the end, & the whole world changed their methods of war, returning to the "less civilized" ways, but with much more effective weaponry.

The technology of today allows for bigger strikes, more frightening & horrible results, but the basic reasons for war are just as they've always been.

Ppl in the mid-east have been under continual attacks from the west for nearly a century. They've been attacked economically, & overtly & covertly with military & undercover personnel. Their ways of life have been forced to change by outside forces ever since their precious resources have been discovered.

Oh, yes, we've made them rich by buying their oil, but we've done much to force them to sell at our preferred prices, in spite of other sources for that oil.

They have had no less than three entire countries overthrown by the USA in the last 65 years, with either puppet dictatorships, or their historical enemies placed in power over them. I'd say they have much to be pissed about.

Say what you will about how we are trying so hard to give them freedom, to liberate them & improve their lives with democracy. Those types of remarks are simply our own spin, our propaganda, Craig. The truth of the matter is that they had a working gov't in these countries, one that they had lived with, a style of gov't that we refuse to accept or understand in our idealistic zeal for our "perfect" type of gov't. We wouldn't bother with them, if they hadn't the precious oil under their sands. (See African strife, & how we ignore it, in spite of the innumerable civil & human rights' violations. Why aren't we trying this hard to "liberate" the average African? Cuz they don't have anything we want.)

Our meddling, our rabid hunger for their oil, & our complete ignorance of their ways are what they find so unappealing that they will strike us in any way that they can. There is also the historical fear about christianity, & the overlapping of sacred ground. We weren't too concerned about that until black gold was found there. Then, once again, we had ppl up in arms about Jerusalem & Israel, which were under Islamic rule for CENTURIES! Why the sudden interest? Duh! It looks no more surprizing to me than it does to them.

If they were attacking us without provocation, I'd say kill 'em all & let god sort 'em out, but that just isn't the case, Craig. Make no mistake - these terrorist attacks will continue as long as we meddle in their affairs, & as long as they see us trying to undermine their ways of life.

I find it incredibly hypocritical that anyone of the Christian faith would spend any amount of time or words condemning another religion for violence and/or control issues when their own history is full of identical behavior.

Religions want to control - that's their purpose and it has been since they were invented - and they exert that control through any means necessary. The point is - they're no different. You may worship a different book and a different savior, but you do the same things as the other religions over and over. How is a killing a Muslim in the name of Jesus Christ any different than a Muslim killing a Christian in the name of Allah?

It's not.

To suggest that offenses committed hundreds of years ago, in a less scientific age, when religion-states were common, is comparable to a religion committing similar attrocities (and worse) today, in a modern age, with the benefits of history's lessons, and the principles of religious tolerance and separation of church and state covering much of the globe, is not an enviable position to hold.

It's not only comparable - it's exactly the same. A Christian was convicted of murdering an abortion clinic doctor a couple weeks ago. He killed a fellow US citizen because he believed his religion wanted him to. He wasn't even killing a Muslim - he was killing his own countryman.

You can talk all you want about modern vs. old, but the end result is the same: doesn't matter which religion you worship, people still run around killing in the name of their God.

And what you're advocating is exactly the same. You're saying we have to kill Muslims because you believe they wan to kill us. That's how religious people justify their decision to kill - by believing their opposition is the devil and wants to destroy them.

If two of your family members were killed or ALL of them were killed, it would make a HUGE difference. We can agree that evil is wrong, even when it is isolated evil. But it defies logic not to realize that greater threats are more serious than minor ones. You would understand this in ANY OTHER aspect of your life, but just not here, because of politically correct methodology.

That said, I am not against the Muslim religion in general. I do believe that Muhammed received revelations from an angel. I do believe it is a valid religion, and it's adherents have a relationship with God. I believe this of Chritianity too. But just as traditional Christianity has misinterpreted scripture and abused the faith, so too do many Imams today. But in a modern age, their fallacies can lead to utter devestation, unlike anything ever seen before, or anything which will ever be seen again.

Muslims are in effect descended from the slave girl Hagar. They inherit ANGER for being rejected and sent out from Abraham. Abraham made a HUGE mistake in sleeping with Hagar at his wife's insistence, and the world has been paying for this mistake and is about to pay beyond imagining in only a few years time. Ishmael was first born and should have received the inheritance from Abraham, but because he cast Ishmael and his mother out, Jacob received the blessing, even though he was second born. This created hatred from the descendents of Ishmael which has now been ongoing for thousands of years. In the Bible however, God promises Hagar that, though she was cast out, her son Ismael would become a great people one day, of multitudes. That God would bless them too.

It is not coincidence that Judaism, Christianity and Muslims ALL trace themselves back to Abraham.

Muslims however claim that it was Ishmael and NOT Jacob who was offered as a sacrifice. And that Jews changed their scripture (Tanakh or Old Testament for Christians) to alter this truth.

In Judaism and Islam, you have two brothers fighting. Both figuratively and LITERALLY!

This fight is going to come to a head very soon.

Go research the Temple Mount and you will find that this spot currently occupies a Mosque, the third holiest one, according to Muslims and is the site of Muhammad's nocturnal journey. But before that, it is the site where God told the Jews to erect the Temple. And it is the ONLY site on the planet where Jews are allowed to have the Temple. There is NO Jewish temple currently because of this. They worship locally in Synagogues, but it is ONLY in the Temple where they are allowed animal sacrifice and this place is meant to be the CENTER of Jewish worship. They will not ever be a satisfied and complete religion until they are able to rebuild this temple, and yet they cannot, because there is a Mosque sitting on top of it. If something happens to that Mosque, I can assure you, that Muslims worldwide will be up in arms and descend upon Israel with no regard for whether they could win or not. They will be incensed. And yet, this is likely to happen eventually, because Jews MUST have their temple. When you see the Jewish men with beards nodding their head toward a wall (the Wailing Wall) while reciting prayers, and their heads go back and forth fast, like a bobble head toy, they are doing this rite at the Wailing Wall. This wall is the remnants of the Temple, and all that is left of it, when Romans destroyed it. They are praying for it's return. From all over the world, they come to this wall, to pray for the Temple to be rebuilt.

I don't care if anyone here thinks this is bullsh*t or a waste of these people's time, but to THEM (Jews and Muslims) it is NO JOKE at all, and THOUSANDS OF YEARS of their religious faith and culture are tied up in all these things.

The Bible talks about the last days involving an attack on Israel coming from the North, and this precipitates Christ's return.

These three great religions: Jewish, Christian, Muslim are inextricably linked. First through Abraham, the father of ALL THREE FAITHS, and then into modern times, where these ancient attitudes and animosities have yet to be fully played out. Interestingly, Jews worship on FRIDAYS, and Muslims on SATURDAYS and Christians on SUNDAYS.

The acient world is coming to a head in the modern world.

While ancient religious literature is filled often with allegories and metaphors that it's adherents take too literally, let me assure you, THIS PART is not a metaphor. The Jews MUST have their temple there, and the Muslims WILL NOT allow their Mosque to be moved to accomodate this.

It is a pot of boiling water waiting to erupt, the size of which has never been seen before.

I respect all three faiths, but no one will talk anyone out of what is to come. Ancient attitudes will not be swayed. Only tragedy of epic proportions will change their hearts. And that tragedy is coming. It is coming soon!
