Paul,

I have terrible acid reflux depending on what I eat.

I will try your apple theory out, but if I remember, apples give me acid reflux, or at least apple juice does. LOL

So this should be interesting.

Thanks for the tip.

Mine was sooo wicked. :( I suffered bad for about 15 years. I mean a roll and a half a day of rolaids is bad. And I developed a tolerance to zantac. That is why I am so gung ho about telling people. I have other theories regarding processed versus whole foods and especially refined carbs and preservatives. I so hope you'll try it and that it works. I am so relieved. It was a huge weight off. I was so scared of throat cancer.

Craig, if you are not carefull you will wind up with the problem I have. Severe acid reflux will lead to esophageal erosion. Which means you will have trouble swallowing your food. This can be a very embarrasing thing if it happens in a restaruant. Your food won't go down it just gets stuck in your throat. The best thing that has worked for me for 7 years now Prilosec OTC. You have to take them for a couple of days before they start working but once they do you can eat or drink anything you want. I take one every morning as soon as I get up and hey man no more worries. The best place to get them is Walmart about $25.00 for 42 tablets. I swear this stuff is a miracle. I can eat jalapeno's and hot sauce and onions lots of coffee and liquor you have to watch it though because this liberation will cause you to gain lots of weight as it has with me. I have had severe stomach problems all of my life but not anymore. In the past I have built up a resistence to all stomach meds but not Prilosec OTC like I said I have been taking it for 7 years now. Please take care of your esophagus and stomach because the erosion thing is a severe problem that will effect the quality of your life.

Not trying to belittle you J. The apples did that for me and I WAS on protonix which is stronger than prilosec. Apples are natural and will not cause bones to break. Look up proton pump inhibitors on wikipedia. I'm cured naturally.

JH,

You're preaching to the choir. Although swallowing food (sadly) is not the problem. It is fear of losing my voice, which already some effect has occured. It has damaged my vocal chords somewhat and that scares the hell out me.

I have had pescriptions for stuff, but without insurance, I do use the store bought stuff now. Same as you. Prilosec OTC. But really, I am self-destructive I guess, because for awhile I had made up a diet for myself, eating mostly fruits and yogurt and some nuts for protein and staying away from sodas, only drinking water or tea. Not only did I lose weight, but the acid reflux went away, as did many other pains for which I have had prescriptions for. Back pains, intense migrains, etc... A simple change of diet, cured most of it. But then I have to give up pizza or a philly cheese steak, and too many other friends to mention.

But I am at heart attack age now.

I think I had better start doing the right thing, and not worry about whatever I think I am missing.

Diet, diet, diet. You are what you eat.

When I used to train relentlessly, I would always say that if the fire is hot enough it will burn anything, but you get a lot less smoke from quality fuel.

Yes, Paul, and today, I am a cream filled pastry and some volcanic salsa! I'm right on board the acid reflex ship with you guys, and all joking aside, I'm going to try the apple thing (although, like Craig, apple juice has always nailed me pretty hard). It seems very picky when it comes to me. I eat stuff that will set your nose hairs on fire, and...nothing. I drink 1/2 an ounce of Pepsi, and it's the fast lane to pain city.
Most things I've tried have failed. I'll try the apples.

Like the old saying says Paul, An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Maybe there is some truth to that. 8)

Sodas get me too. Oreos tear me up too. I think it's the sugar and hydrogenated oils MAYBE. However. Apples prevent or cure it depending on when I eat them. The sweetest apples - fuji - I have noticed with give me heartburn. The rest work like a charm. Coffee, onions, tomatoes etc were the things I systematically knocked and then systematically reintroduced. I have always been able to eat spicy foods too. But with apples I can eat anything I want. I do try to stick to a lower carb diet for my weight. And I try to eat good carbs mostly like fruits. I do however have a 2 - 11.5 oz bag a week habit of Ghiradelli 60% cocoa dark chocolate chips!!

I wonder how those would go with the aformentioned old dead elephants foot.
I feel for you guys and my poor wife. Must suck not to just eat whatever you want.
I lived for about two weeks on not much more than MRE's.
Just wondered how it would effect my energy levels.
I had plenty of energy to run for some flavor at the end of the experiment.

Dark chocolate has antioxidents and much less sugar.

Sans, I do eat whatever I want now. I just also eat apples which I now want too! :D Sweet!
