Hello Sanshouheil,
I think we all spend time worrying too much about others; that they are different and might be happier like us... or be more correct if like us?
If there is a truth of life it is I think something more like the old 'All roads lead to Rome' type of thing, but not meaning Rome as a single definable place, just that one way or another we all get through our life then shuffle off our mortal coil... Will Shakespeare said that I believe!
So I was very interested when you said:

"I have recieved many compliments and thanks from people whom's lives we have touched. This too is a burden, for I would take pride in a work that is not mine.
I am a proud and vain man.
This is my struggle, my curse, and my blessing."

I feel quite envious of you for having this thing in your life, it must be nice, and be nice finding many like-minded people?
I too am quite proud and vain, yet pretty content with my own version and beliefs, albeit of an eventual obscurity after death.
Except I do believe in life after death: my daughter Roseanne Joy; she is my life after my death, the little bit of me that carries on!

May your chosen God bless you always,
Mark across the pond............

N who's the chick with the Les Paul.
Don't tell me wife, I thank I'm in love.....ha ha ha ha!

That's Ann Wilson playing the Les Paul, and this was x to the c to the ellent. This is what I am talking about. Gretchen is even dressed more appropriately for this genre.
I saw this when it came on TV. Jada Pinkett Smith was the host.

Kate Bush
Cyndi Lauper
Ann Wilson
Chrissie Hynde
Dale Bozzio
Pat Benatar

These were my favorites but there's a huge list of lesser known female singers that are also very good.

Heather Nova
Kate Pierson
Lily Allen
Stevie Nicks
Mariah Carey

etc...

You know, I had a chance to actually go to that concert but I had to work. Later on I saw it on VH1 or something. When I heard Gretchen Wilson was gonna do this song, I was skeptical. I thought it might turn out something like the Swift/Leppard cover. Then it came on and my jaw just dropped to the floor. I caught myself saying "ok lets see how she does with the high notes", and I was just stunned!!

There aren't many vocal performances I would consider perfect performances. But I think that song is a perfect vocal performance. Doesn't hurt to have Alice In Chains and Nancy onstage as well. Imagine the pressure of having to shine vocally surrounded by such great musicians. But she showed no fear at all. That's what you call good ol' fashioned guts..

In my honest opinion, she sounds just like Nancy. But that's just me. I would bet that she is Nancy's daughter.Alic in Chains were also outstanding. Now, for me, I don't care what the music is be it jazz, rock or even classical, as long as it has the funk it is a classic and Baracuda...well done...is a grand example.

Duh, now I am feeling stupid. Nancy is the guitarist and Ann sings? I have always thought it was the other way around because of the jazz singer, Nancy Wilson. They are no relation. THis is as if Gretchen was cloned. Here is what wikipedia says about her unless someone else posted this and I missed it.

Yeah that was the VH1 awards ceremony last year I believe. I recorded it, and watched it several times. It's Nancy Wilson (who used to play all the acoustic parts in Heart) who stepped in to that one. A "cameo" appearance I guess you could call it. Awesome.
As far as the Def Leppard girl thing, I thought she was good.. maybe Def is just trying to hook-up with the next-gen so's they wont die out and fall by the wayside..

Or maybe they were paid well. :)

Just think about all the Taylor Swift fans who watched and thought that she was great but the old guys sucked. Depressing ain't it?

I stayed out of this cuz I don't like either act, but I had to look, since this thread doesn't wanna die...

This is sh*t. sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t shitty-SHIT!!!!!!!!

Why not get Gloria Gaynor to sing Inna Godda Da Vida? Or howzabout Linda Rondstadt sings Zep? Melanie does the Stones? Hey, why not get Joe Cocker to sing "I gotta brand new pair of rollerskates / you gotta brand new key?" (Actually, he could pull that off better than she did, cuz he's got STYLE!) Or the Creed singer doing Cranberries hits?

UGH!

Some things don't even look good on paper!

She hasn't the necessary power or stage presense to pull this stuff off, & SOMEONE had to know it before they let her go out there & humiliate herself!

Pitiful!

Alrighty then.. Color me confused as usual, JW..lol

And yeah I'm still having fun and doing it up..

OTHERWISE

Brittany does those type of performances.. bad..Philby is correct.. It would have altogether better to suggest a different tune for her to "attempt".

Ya know, it's funny how all those AI types have the chops, but so little STYLE! They are cookie-cutter performers, at best, for the most part. Any woman who's been semi-successful on AI could have swapped places with Taylor & we'd never know the difference, I'll bet. Hit the notes. That's all they do. There's no personality to their singing, just the same old gospelly scales & waverings, but no personality of their own. Not in their performance or even their dress. I don't understand it at all...

I for one like a little of each Genra. But I will tell you this. I have a lot of respect for a pop artist who employs 100+ people who helps make the music more enjoyable.

How many employees does a Death Metal Band that makes you want to go out and kill your mama have?

Kind of a dumb rant but thats how I feel about Genra's.
