Best cure for heat exhaustion is GATORADE..

I used to landscape in college and when we did get the pukies from the heat, the ONLY thing that would revive you besides time, was GATORADE.

Try it.. It works better than water.

I'll have to try that Cap'n.
We generally only infuse 0.9% sodium chloride in water solution in the ER for a severe heat stroke.
But the added electrolytes have got to be good for you to prevent getting to that level.

Trust me, Crip, you don't wanna ruin your machine on the rocks that grow here at night. :)
Thanks for the offer though.

The place I live has those rocks growing all over the place. I think I need to invest in stock for john deere or some other lawn mower company. Im praying for rain here. But hate having to cut the grass every week when it does.

And its another day in Paradise !!!

Can you say "King of the Hill" ? I love this story...reminds me of something that would have happened with my dad, except he would have made me help drag all that stuff back home. THEN, I would have to help fix it. after I picked a bunch of bluberries. I always used 'that time of the month" to get out of doing work. Any of you guys with daughters, remember this.

My wifey likes to do "extreme gardening". She worked so hard the other day (I try to avoid the garden, although I've built plenty of fences for that damn garden) that she was so hot that she said that she started to feel cold. That worried me. Can you elaborate on that, Dr. Sans?
-and glad to hear about your "silver-lining" Rats.. maybe a torch and a sledge will straighten out that steering rod. :D Heat does wonders for molding metal I was taught a few years ago..

Well, Z, with my luck and the proximity of said rod to gas tank....I dunno if a torch is a very good idea.

When your body over heats (hyperthermia) , much like in hypothermia
the circulatory system shunts blood to the core to "save" the vital organs as a last resort survival mode per say. As you dehydrate, the blood plasma increases in viscosity and decreases in volume, this stresses the pump (heart) further reducing you ability to cool.
The "cold" feeling is resultant from this shunting and is commonly refered to as "shock". You can cool down too fast, and the shock can be fatal.
The trick is to cool slowly, and replace the fluids lost.
There are multiple levels of what I call "hypethermia" but you primarily treat them the same way.
Heat exhaustion is the less severe level.
Heat stroke, typically involves some degree of decreased levels of consiousness. Ranging from mild confusion to being unconcious. And can be fatal without immediate treatment.
Cool slowly, drink fluids, and rest, to return to work in the heat the same day, like I did as a pup, is a recipe for disaster.

btw...

Captain is right about Gatorade. Being from Florida I know a little about heat, and Gatorade. It was created in 1965 at the request of the Florida Gators football coach who asked the research department of the college, if they could come up with something that would help his players deal with the heat for practices. Something better than water alone. After some research, the mix of ingredients, water, sugar, sodium, potassium and others, was developed, and the team went on to win the Orange bowl the following year. Gatorade was credited for the win, even by the other team's coach. This made it an overnight success and it was marketed afterward for commercial use, and called "Gatorade" (Gator Aid) in tribute to the football team, that was effectively the first test case.
