it means that the newer artist in myy age and the ones to come are the death of music. creativity, technicality, musicality, all gone.
dont take my word for it, listen to some pop or rap nowdays!
Ive heard worse as well, but Im not saying lets lower the ebar becuase there is worse hahaha thats reverse logic

I think it means more the death of GOOD music on TV and Radio, but that has been going on for some time now in lots of genres. But it won't be the death of good music. There are a lot of good young bands out there playing the bars and festivals. The people who like the pop stuff being driven down their throats can stay home, glued to the idiot box (my sixth grade teacher used to call it that), but real music lovers will have to make an effort to go find the real deal. Who knows, this might bring about a revival of supporting live music. Let's keep our fingers and eyes crossed.

I didnt think of it like that.
Ok, yeah there are always those who are gonna try much harder then the rest. But lests face it, Dream Theater *an amazing bad* has hardly recieved any mainstream media attention. Instead Mary twinkle toes, who I would place $500 on not being able to sweep pick and $20 on not even knowing what sweeping is!
I guess Im mainlu lashing out on pop culture.

jw123 wrote:I just saw this and it cracks me up. The performance, I dont see whats wrong with it. Def sounds good, Taylor is singing on pitch and looks like they are having fun doing it. When I first read some of the post I was expecting a trainwreck or something. I jsut dont get all the negativity, if its not your cup of tea, fine, but from where I stand I see nothing to get all upset about and like I said I doubt many of us on here could do any better.

Just my 2 cents, not trying to start anything with anyone. I actually watched it twice. Would I go out and buy it, no I wouldnt. But seeing a younger generation musician of another genre of music interpreting a song with the original artist, makes me feel warm. I guess it doesnt matter what I or you think anyway.

I didn't say that she was a bad singer...the music she was singing was not for her. It's like when Aretha Franklin subbed as an opera singer about 11 years ago. Of course she sings fabulously, but she is not the best opera singer. Taylor Swift lacked a little bit of roughness.

Yea, I thought the Taylor Swift cover was weak as well.

Here's one For Ratsass.

I've posted this on here before. Not sure of you were around when I did though. Country singer singing Rock. She kicked the s**t out of Fergie with this cover.

Hi all,
I am trying to straighten my thoughts on this:
It was said that people shouldn't run-down this Taylor girl for her performance because people on here couldn't do any better.

I am sympathetic with that angle and I guess we are primarily a 'talking shop' of guys who have in most ways failed to achieve what they aspired to.
But I don't agree that anyone who can't do better should not comment... an opnion can be valid even from someone who can't sing for toffees themselves!
I do though feel that the assertion if it is a true fact, that guys on here wouldn't have sung it any better, does suggest that she wasn't really doing that bad a job as a world average.

So on balance I am with the girl!
Cheers to all across there,
Mark...............

Damn Shredd that was probably the best version of Barracuda I have ever seen, Gretchin Wilson reminds me of a young Nancy Wilson wow think about it Ann & Nancy Wilson, Gretchin Wilson humm I wonder if there is any relation.
I was reading an interveiw with Neal Shcon of Journey in guitar player mag. and he was talking about how the L.A. scene has been dead for some time and that when he goes to Nashville he see's more people he know's there than in L.A. he also talked about how the music scene in Austin is really happening. So it just goes to show you who the real influences are to those young Nashville stars. I know I am gonna get chewed out for saying this but it is true. The Nashville music scene has been approached from a totally different perspective than the pop scene. This is why the really smart young bands are going there to make it first in country Music and then they can show their true colors. There is opportunity in Nashville. The only opportunity in pop music is if you place in the top 10 of American Idol. The only opportunity for a true rock band like we grew up listening to especially if you are into Southern Rock is in Nashville. There is a guy that just came back to this forum that I have been reading his post (very dedicated and articulate) I believe the name of his band was Southern Mischief dude Nashville is where you need to be. Hell even Mutt Lang knows it producer for Def Leppard, Brian Adams, and Shania Twain.

Too Funny

Its just a freaking video, how does this one deal translate to the death of music? I dont get that angle at all. You either like it or dont like it, or I guess my real feeling is indifference. It didnt move me to want to buy it, but its not so bad that Im thinking why did they ever put this crap up.

For me if Def Lepard called me up and said we want you to play Photograph with us, Im sure I would jump at the chance as would most of you. And when they said Oh by the way Taylor Swift is singing it with us, I would still be on my way.

Thanks Capt, and for the record I prefer this over the Hanson Hendrix video you posted a while back. I know you put these on here just to get a response and see where it goes.

You guys have a Great Rockin Weekend

JW, are you looking to be personally insulted?
I am not going go that way or at least try not to go that way.

LOL It's RANDY HANSEN, not HANSON.. (wow what a shot THAT is)(That'd be like insinuating something personal about YOU)

I list this utter horsesh*t as I see them/hear them. (Taylor Maid)
I saw this duet on TV, for god's sake and it made me want to retch.

I do think it's so bad that it wasn't worth putting even on Utube. Matter of fact, I think it slights Def Leppard.

And you can play with Def Leppard all you like, I kind of figured you would since you like that genre. Again it's not my cup of tea bag and to mention Taylor Swift would just get the phone slammed back down in the cradle, hard. (f*ck her, just buy the dress)

I liked the old guy playing Hendrix and you can demean that all you want. Though I wouldn't talk sh*t on him, as I have a funny feeling he'd do a little dance as played circles around some of us. Yeah, he's ugly but the man can play.

You don't like him, I got it. I don't like that duet, I bet you got it.
You can like what you want and everyone else will like what they like.

Did that make it clear enough to remove any doubt? I am getting sick of repeating myself and even the Jehovah's Witnesses won't change MY mind.

FYI I don't do/like COUNTRY/WESTERN either. It makes me want to puke.
Hard pressed, I can come up with some more I don't dig either.

Hi guys,
And what about God-rock?
You Sanshoihel guys have some really good stuff that I listened to when I first joined this site; but apart from you all the other God-rock I have ever found has been such sloppy sentimental crap I think it would drive away any potential believers!

Okay I hold my hands up: I am trying to wind you up just a little bit!
But there is a serious point here: religious music may work for good God fearing folk, but it sure (as Hell!) is a turn-off to anyone else! When I assume believers think it is going to bring sinners to the way the truth and the light!

I have always thought that I as a true believer, that there is no God, could write far better God-rock songs for converting wayward souls... you need to understand your prey, and that's where Christians haven't got a hope in hell!
To be good at selling double glazed windows you need to have lived in a draughty old house where the windows don't shut properly! or you just can't put it across.
Telling the good news you believe in butters no parsnips at all to my way of thinking, and all you will ever catch are the ones who were wanting to be caught anyway... like fishing for mackeral!

So if you want songs that work, find a really good Devil-worshipper to write them for you!
Then you might finally start to get somewhere with saving souls.

Cheers guys,
Mark in Sussex England.............................

Missunderstood is just a way of life Mark.
I am not in the business of saving souls, not my job.
I would agree with you to some extent about the popular Christian music trend.
Thats why our band approches it from the loud and proud angle.
Not pride in ourselves, but in what our Savior has done for us.
I will be greatly relieved when we can get some decent recordings posted.
Frankly as a musician, we have grown and improved so much I am embarressed by the poor quality of the production.
That being as it is, I am but the sower of seed.
Some will fall upon rock and fail to sprout or be eaten by the birds of the air.
Some will fall amoung the thorns take root, to be strangled out before bearing fruit.
Some will fall on poor soil, wither and die in the sun.
Yet, God willing some will fall upon good soil, the Holy Spirit will water and nuture it, and it will bear fruit.
Still, I am just the sower of seed, hampered by my own short commings.
I have recieved many compliments and thanks from people whom's lives we have touched. This too is a burden, for I would take pride in a work that is not mine.
I am a proud and vain man.
This is my struggle, my curse, and my blessing. 8)

George I played in a religious area of music for about 4 years. I came to realize that I was trying to glorify myself, not God, so I got out of it.

I struggled with that for a long time.

Im glad there are folks like you that can handle the load.

Keep it up!
