I went to the Motor City Casino last night to see Dweezil's latest tribute to his father. I saw them a few years ago when he had several member's of his dad's band but now he has an all new band. They played for over 2 1/2 hours doing well-known and obscure Zappa tunes, and even did a new composition. I sat row F from the stage and watched him tear it up all night. Afterwards we went to the casino and my gf won $500 on the slots and I played Texas hold-em and won modestly. I'm only going on 4 hours of sleep but still running on adrenaline.

Cool Jimmy,

I would love to see that show. Thanks for bringing that up!

I remember last year seeing videos of him showing all the gear he was using. Some of it was his dads old amps and guitars. Very Cool

I'll bet that was a good show.
I love playing Texas hold-em, when my wife is home.

I'm headed to Louisville where they're playing but will be there for traing and can't make the festival (Forecastle). damn and it's a bad ass one too! I did see Zappa's band in Frisco @ the Crocodile just before it closed down though (R.I.P.). They were of course, amazing!

Sounds like you saw them the same tour I did, with Ike Willis singing? The new band is impressive, and Dweezil's guitar playing is first-rate. He uses a lot of flange on the solos but I've always been partial to that effect, and he's got several cool variations of the normal flanger.

Actually you look a little pink and purple lol. If you can't get to a Zappa Plays Zappa show buy the DVD. It features Steve Vai and Terry Bozzio and is mind blowing.

I actually saw FZ in Detroit back in 1979. He had just gotten a Roland guitar synth and just noodled around with it all night.

I think I'll pick that one up tomorrow thanks for the heads up. I had read about that dvd in guitar player mag. earlier this year and made a mental note to pick it up and forgot about it with all the drama thats been going on in our band.
