Hey Tracy -
First off, I commend you for the courage it took to "put yourself out there"! I agree that some voice lessons would be crucial to help you build your vocal muscles, breathe correctly and stay in tune. You may also want to get out and perform to build your confidence, which would force you to strengthen your voice and see what it feels like to hold a note, belt it out AND hold an audience. Once you realize how singing with emotion can hold a crowd, you'll see the importance. This was my turning point.
You may also want to find a few more ballads to sing, which typically require you to hold out notes longer, forcing you to stay on key. If you cut a ballad, please put it up. I'd love to hear it.
