Did someone say DOOBIES???
hehe...
First of all, ALL the current politicians would have to be fired, by us...THE PEOPLE...who they are supposed to be working for. They're not, they work for money and are controlled by huge corporations. They also lie perpetually and put all your money they can in their own pockets. Why does a hammer cost $200 at the white house? Who puts that money in his/her pocket? Find out and put an end to it.
Impeach every politician who is found to be working for big business instead of for the people, US. Starting wit the president.
Then, the next batch of elected officials might...just might...realize that we the people would not put up with government by and for the rich, as it has been for the past 50 years or so.
Corporations - way too much power, much too easy to buy politicians. I don't have any easy answers, but that would have to be dealt with. I think you would have to make it illegal for corporations to make campaign contributions, or indulge in lobbying congress. As long as they can do both, the government will be run according to what the corporations want.
Medical - don't get me started...but the current system is not working. medical care usually is not care, and is incredibly expensive. As already mentioned, a bandaged cut should not cost $1000. A pill should not cost $100, and some prescription drugs cost more than $100 a pill. Pharmaceutical companies have even lobbied congress to get a law passed saying ONLY drugs can prevent or cure disease, making natural health care almost impossible to practice or receive. That's because the pharmaceutical companies cannot get patents on herbs that grow naturally and make billions on them. They can only patent drugs they create, which usually means chemicals that should never, ever be ingested by humans.
Schools - why have schools been mentioned so little in this thread? Your kids' education is the number one most important thing in their lives, and the current government run education system is doing an absolutely horrible job of it. The number one reason is there's no competition. Introduce competition into the educational system and watch the quality of the kids' education get better by leaps and bounds.
This was tried in Florida, they introduced a coupon system where if you thought your kid wasn't getting a good enough education, you could get coupons that would allow you to send your kids to a better school. The teachers' union took it to court and shot it down in no time. Private schools were making the government schools look really bad and getting lots of new students. But the kids were getting a lot better education too. I'll have to look up the details again, I can't remember the specifics, but it was shot down by the teachers' union in 2 years if I remember correctly. Now Florida is back to the same crummy government run school system as everyone else.
Illegal aliens - Nuke em all and shoot 'em in the dark too. OK seriously, shut down the border. QUICK...Texas and Louisiana are being overrun by illegal immigrants. Ditto for some states out west, but I'm not familiar enough with their situation to comment. Fact is, illegal aliens are a big problem. I've dealt with them for many years, I know how many claim to be unable to speak English, but actually do. I know how many are abusing the welfare and food stamp programs. I see them at the grocery store in their work clothes, pulling out food stamps, every time I go to get groceries. Not to mention the millions of jobs Americans have lost. WHY? Remember that government/corporation thing? Businesses get cheap labor, so they pressure the government to look the other way.
Outsourcing - Higher income taxes for businesses that send jobs overseas. Like 75% sounds good to me...
Iraq, Afghanistan - Outta there. Fast as possible. We're in the middle of a holy war over there that's been going for 2000 years, if we keep going it will turn into WWIII and we'll be stuck in the middle from the outset.
Energy - Start working on serious wind and solar power, to do something about the serious environmental affects of coal burning power plants (that's where most of the mercury in your waterways comes from) and stop buying oil from the middle east. Open up the Alaskan oil fields reserved for that purpose. And before you scream environment, look at it on a map. The oil production area set aside long ago is about 5% of the size of the wilderness area close to it. But it will get us out from under middle east oil barons who are robbing us blind. While you're at it, put a cap on oil prices. It's gone far enough. Any time Exxon can post $45 billion in net income in one quarter, they're certainly not hurting.
Oh...and never get me started on a political discussion... lol
I'm a member of the BOMB SQUAD.
If you see me running, better catch up!
