For those that care . . .
After erasing everything else . . . I just posted "Out Here."
.
This is a completely different style of music than anyone here has ever heard from me. I play/sing everything in this recording.
.
I play a LOT of styles of music . . .
.
I broke some 'rules' with this song, but that just makes the song more unique, I guess. Besides, I really hate rules . . .
.
If you like Pink Floyd, you'll probably like this.

I like this a lot. And yeah, it definitely does remind me of Pink Floyd. The harmonies are really cool.

This is really good Alan. Do you have any CD's for sale? I saw on your profile about somebody stealing your material. Did they publish and sell your songs? Did they make any money off your tunes? In other words can you sue them for damages?

Yep, I liked it too.

Initially gave me goosebumps when it sounded like Pleasant Valley Sunday..

(I have an addiction to the monkees which I am either trying to kick or cultivate, I am unsure of which)

Yeah, I love harmonies, too. I'm branching off from using just a guitar and Bass to make all the harmonies . . .
.
Bob, Yeah, I have 2 self produced CD's for sale. "Out Here" is on one of them.
. . . all different styles of music. I can't post contact info in this forum, but my MySpace blogs have ordering info, if you - or anyone else - is interested.
The profile reference - which I just deleted - was about a guy here who copied one of my songs and then posted it on his Bandmix page, to taunt me. For me to discuss it would only invite further attacks.
.
I enjoyed singing it more than I realized I would; I never considered myself a singer, just a guitarist.
It's a little sad, but there's a little humor in there, too . . .
It may be another year before I write another song in this style.
Anyway - glad people enjoy it.

Hey, Rhythmman. I really enjoyed the harmonies on that song too. You're right, they are Pink Floydish. Early Pink Floyd at that.

Now, this ain't an attack by any means, but I called and talked to Glen (giongi2) about a lot of different things. He's really a down to earth guy, even if he is from New York. :) And he REALLY wasn't taunting you by that little stunt at all. He was just trying to show you that the internet is no different than any other form of media. Someone with basic knowledge of any number of software out there, can copy music if they can hear it. It's no different from having a cassette recorder hooked up to your home stereo in the old days and just hitting "record" when a song comes on. Or like someone buying a CD and then making a bunch of copies for their friends or to sell (I've heard of that happening and I've heard of people getting busted for it). Maybe he should have just TOLD you that it could be done instead of proving it, but he didn't mean it in a hurtful way at all. And he did pull it as soon as you told him to like he promised.
Too many good musicians on here have taken something the wrong way and jumped on each other about it. Most have dropped it and at least agreed to disagree. You and Glen are both really good musicians and songwriters and I hate to think that that one little thing is going to keep you from being friends on here. When I first saw the post where he had done that, I saw it for being a friendly warning, and then when I talked to him, it reinforced what I already knew. He absolutely meant no ill will or even malicious fun over it. He was just trying to warn you that, just because you don't set your song to be downloadable, doesn't mean it can't be taken.

OK, enough of that. :) The style of this new song of yours...is it one that you look to pursue while it's still fresh? Lots of times, when I come up with a song that is different from anything else I've done, it makes me want to continue in that vein for awhile. This usually also makes me try too hard and fail miserably at it, and I either go back to my comfort zone or on to something else even more different. Anyway I look at it, writing songs is a crapshoot for me.

Peace out, RM. and keep the good tunes comin'!

Yeah, RA, I really like this style of music.
.
But - will I pursue this kind of music, from now on?
Well -
. . . my fingers decide what I'll compose . . . not me.
I just watch them go, and listen.
I play new stuff all the time, and just listen and decide how much I want to hear it again.
If I'm in the right mood, and if it really grabs me - I'll record it.
.
So - to answer your questionion - sorry - I can't answer your question.
.
What I can say is that every song I write will be different.

Alan, copying one of your songs and posting it on Bandmix isn't really grounds for a lawsuit. You might find an attorney who views it differently than I do. I don't know what dollar value you can put on something like that since I assume they didn't make any money off your song. Personally I would be honored if somebody posted any of my songs anywhere, even if there was negative connotations about it. ANY publicity is good publicity. Now if you hear one of your songs on the radio and somebody is making money off it THAT is worth getting an attorney for. But even in that case I would only hire an attorney on a contingency (you pay him ONLY if you win the lawsuit). I don't think in this case your song was "stolen." Stealing implies that somebody caused you economic hardship. This was hardly "stealing" IMO...

Alan , I wasn't taunting you. Nice track and I promise you it wil never end up on my wifes I POD unless I contact you and and send you a buck.
Just a thought....
Every band out there is violating performance rights. Every time they play any song from Albert King to Zepplin to John Mayer,,In a bar where they are making money[commercial application],they are violating the law.Do you do any covers?
I am glad you you posted something new ,that's a good way to get some feed back. If you think I'm just busting your balls, then call me.I'm really not and I really hate it when sh*t like this gets twisted for no f**k reason,Glen.
