Have you considered the idea of using a compiler and writing/recording your tunes, track by track on something other than a studio's resources?

It certainly is cheaper and would still give you the material you desire.

Done right, I would be afraid to state that it might be as good as a studio recording... (gulp)>?>?>?>?

I will say if you are holding a steady lineup in any kind of band you are doing great. You are like me, music is a major part of your life, but it is probably not the top priority.

I think you should feel fortunate to have a group together that is practicing and playing regularly.

Boy, no kidding. Seems like keeping a lineup together is half the battle. Maybe more.

I'm trying out some new stuff with another guy, tonight, for a cpl upcoming gigs. Can't sit & wait forever, & all that...

A compiler is any recording program that allows you to lay tracks 1 at a time and then do a final mastering at the end.

Cakewalk Sonar, Acid, Reason, Garage Band, Cubase and many others..

Studio seems only good to me if you are recording everyone at once..

Hmmm I use a compiler everyday and I've yet to hear any music from it lol. Home recording is fine for song sketches and pre-production but will never match the results you can get from a pro studio.

At one time people were flipping out 'round here, because a lot of this software was making studios less desirable due to financial reasoning.

I have heard some studios put out some crap.

I have heard some people with software put out some crap.

The software people spent less money though. And when they found something that was agreed to be truly a diamond in the rough, they went back and that's what was done in the studio as it seems like the easy way to get a decent recording when everyone is contributing to the creative juices.

Forget all you studio people, get with the technology or be left in the dust.

Really looking forward to your PRO studio work. A professional studio is where it's at my friend. You can screw around forever doing your own recordings but it's not the same as a pro studio. Can't wait to get back in the PRO studio myself.
