MrMikeV,
You're starting to get ahead of yourself - and I think you're enjoying this as much as I am.

" 'I wouldn't say simply using Western's musical notes implies ripping anybody off.' -I would'nt either... that would mean every song ever writen w/o the use of semitones was a ripoff of someone."

- Just making sure you weren't originally implying that.

" 'Rock is based on the blues, more specifically the 12 bar blues, which has been around a lot longer than Howlin' Wolf as well.' -hello 12 bar blues = 1 4 5 progression!!?!"

- Hi. I got it - wasn't disagreeing. The 12 bar blues were around long before Howlin' Wolf though...

"Obviously the time you spent building your historical perspective on rock wasn't wasted on any basic music theory training."

- What makes you say that? Is that supposed to be a 'low blow'?

"who among us really has a 'face value' understanding of the music we are refering to?"

- Anyone who gets basic enjoyment out of music (for instance, you liking Quiet Riot based on 'face value').

"tho I haven't managed to aquire anything as grandios as an architectural degree(can u feel the sarcasm), I did manage to scramble through a degree in computer science"

- You like using different variations of the word 'grand' don't you? If you need to refer to other people as being grandiose then you sound like you have an inferiority complex. I didn't refer to my degree as grand, you did (and why, may I ask?). Good job on your computer science degree.

"it doesn't offend me as I have been called a moron by several people that would qualify as 'much smarter than you'."

- I'm glad you weren't offended (you fooled me). I don't know if admitting you've been called a moron by a lot of 'smart' people helps your position. Sorry, but I didn't understand the last sentence - did you mean you've been called a moron by people smarter than me? I never called you a moron and you don't know my IQ compared to these other people to seriously state that. Did I misinterpret that?

"...and I think you're enjoying this as much as I am." Indeed I am, perhaps even more.

"What makes you say that? Is that supposed to be a 'low blow'?"
I know you only have an architectural degree(hehe), but I won't insult your intelligence by spelling it out for ya...
now that was low.

"who among us really has a 'face value' understanding of the music we are refering to?"
This one - I will spell out... you mention 12 bar blues in opposition to my comment: almost as if you were explaining it to me... which would suggest that you weren't/aren't aware that I was talking about a 12 bar blues progression. This is basic -8th-grade-level musical learning... surely someone of your intelligence would have no trouble disciphering the laws of music... right?

"it doesn't offend me as I have been called a moron by several people that would qualify as 'much smarter than you'."
-just being playful and honest. a little humility never hurt anyone... you should have some more. You'll know when you've had enought when you realize you are smart-enough-to-know-you're-a-dumb@$$... note that I am not calling you a dumb@$$, just saying.

One parting thought: don't put too much stock in your IQ (you mentioned in your last post)... the tests mean nothing... I can personally attest to that fact as I myself did really well on them... and I am a dumb@$$.

" 'What makes you say that? Is that supposed to be a 'low blow'?'
I know you only have an architectural degree(hehe), but I won't insult your intelligence by spelling it out for ya...
now that was low. "

- If you're unable to 'spell it out' for me then I think you don't even know what you're talking about (in reference to my apparent need for music theory training). I shouldn't have to ask the same question twice but, once again, what makes you say I need basic music theory training? I like specific answers so please don't be vague again.

"you mention 12 bar blues in opposition to my comment: almost as if you were explaining it to me... which would suggest that you weren't/aren't aware that I was talking about a 12 bar blues progression. This is basic -8th-grade-level musical learning... surely someone of your intelligence would have no trouble disciphering the laws of music... right?"

- I didn't mention the 12 bar blues 'in opposition' to your comment. I knew you were talking about that progression but would rather not refer to it simply as 'I, IV, V'. Perhaps you have trouble 'deciphering' other peoples words. And I'm glad you've grasped something at the '8th grade level'.

You don't know me, MrMikeV, so unfortunately you're not in a position to tell me what is lacking in my personality (humility). And, yes, I know you're not calling me a dumb ass so you won't find me mentioning it another five times.

"One parting thought: don't put too much stock in your IQ (you mentioned in your last post)... the tests mean nothing... I can personally attest to that fact as I myself did really well on them... and I am a dumb@$$."

- I know the tests mean nothing; you spoke of people 'smarter' than me - so aren't you putting stock in the tests? Or in what way do you define intelligence - since you understand some people are 'smarter' than others? I'm sure you did well on the tests (I'm not convinced about the reading portion) but, like you said, they don't mean anything. And I guess anybody would find humility in calling themselves a dumb ass.

[quote="SDavis22"]" 'What makes you say that? Is that supposed to be a 'low blow'?'
Apparently you aren't as intelligent as I gave you credit for so let me spell it out for you: my orig quote said "I see you didn't waste any time studying basic music theory when you were gathering together your historical perspective on rock" -what this means is that I don't believe you know squat about music theory... i.e. your viewpoint on music is based on history alone and is not balanced by any sort of 'musical' understanding of the material you criticize... you could always prove me wrong and demonstrate your understanding... but I dought you could do that.

"I didn't mention the 12 bar blues 'in opposition' to your comment. I knew you were talking about that progression but would rather not refer to it simply as 'I, IV, V'. "
simply - hilarious. sounds like you read this in a book and posted it up here thinking no one would call you on it. I am begining to wonder if you actually play an instrument... come to think of it... let me address the white elephant in the room... an architect who can't afford a basic sound card so he can make music on the computer??????????????????????????
you must be some architect.

"You don't know me, MrMikeV, so unfortunately you're not in a position to tell me what is lacking in my personality "
-the greatest injustice of all.

"I know the tests mean nothing; you spoke of people 'smarter' than me - so aren't you putting stock in the tests?
Or in what way do you define intelligence"
- a good mark of it would be the virtue defined by not going out of your way to demonstrate it.
Let me know if I need to spoon feed the meaning of that one to ya...

"since you understand some people are 'smarter' than others? I'm sure you did well on the tests (I'm not convinced about the reading portion) but, like you said, they don't mean anything."
its all relative to whom you place around yourself... on that note: I really have enjoyed your company. thanks again

Personally i have no experience of Pantera, so i will not make a comment on a subject i know bog all about.
However as on objective observer i will make comment on this entertaining exchange. MrMikeV already has won my vote of credibility as he has an audio file on his profile. Sdavis has obviously read a wee bit on music, but should put his money where his mouth is and at least post an audio file (good or bad, who cares) on his profile. This may offer some form of credibility as a musician instead of just a frequent library visitor.
Nice stripey shirt though, but would have thought that if you can take the time to post a pretty shirt then you can easily post a few sounds. Just an observation lol. Regards from the uk

thank you mcawber. I couldn't have asked for more... er, perhaps a few words like "I am in no way affiliated with mrmikev, I am not an actor and have not been paid to make this statement"... hehe.
btw, what's it like over there across the pond... I've always wanted to go there. someday.

i dont care who bugs my room, when one man spends 5 trillion dollars in less than 8 years, and then keeps asking for more, criticizing those who say "thats enough, georgy," there is something wrong.

I'm not much of a political man... but I will tell ya: I waited in line for 4+ hrs to vote against mr b... even took a late hw hit on my discrete math assignment for it. I'd do it again, but fortunately I won't have to.
I'll never get over him saying that people in mexico speak mexican...
hello: one of two largest neighbors and you don't have the political sense to know what language they speak(spanish). And he went to yale??? they are just giving those degrees away aren't they?

"I don't believe you know squat about music theory... i.e. your viewpoint on music is based on history alone and is not balanced by any sort of 'musical' understanding of the material you criticize... you could always prove me wrong and demonstrate your understanding... but I dought you could do that."

- It doesn't really make a difference to me if you 'don't believe' I have an understanding of basic music theory. Then again, I don't whine endlessly when someone alludes to me being a moron. It isn't clear to me what the 'musical understanding' is that you're looking for. I'll discuss any subject of your choice, Mr. intellect. Though proving you wrong hasn't been a difficult task thus far, I 'dought' (literate people say doubt - I guess you are a dumb ass) you can back me into a corner.

"simply - hilarious. sounds like you read this in a book and posted it up here thinking no one would call you on it. - Where did you originally learn about the 12 bar blues? You're calling me out on referring to 'I, IV, V' as the 12 bar blues? And you're wondering if I play an instrument based on this? Then it's suddenly why can't I afford a basic sound card if I'm an architect? Sounds to me like you're just searching for something (anything) to belittle me with. You're not doing very well and anyone with a brain can see that. You're not very considerate either - try wrap your mind around this: Architecture school is very expensive and I had to use student loans to get my degree. I don't have a job in the Architectural field yet and have bills to pay. I'm not in a position to waste money on a 'sound card' right now. Make sense? You're able to share your audio with others and you still haven't gone anywhere - you must be some musician...

"a good mark of it would be the virtue defined by not going out of your way to demonstrate it.
Let me know if I need to spoon feed the meaning of that one to ya..."

You don't need to spoon feed me anything - I'll ask you to elaborate when you're either vague or double-talking (or both). I'm simply talking, not attempting to demonstrate my intellect (though I think that's inherent when people speak anyway). It sounds as if your threatened by simply stating that - so I'll take it as a compliment. Thank you.

"its all relative to whom you place around yourself... on that note: I really have enjoyed your company. thanks again
mv"

- You don't place other people around you - you place yourself around other people (the world revolves around the sun, you know?). You must be a real pleasure if engaging in your unfounded arguments = good company. And your welcome.

And Sir Discotheque Across the Pond only sided with you because you have an audio file on your page. Listening to your audio I still would have sided with me based on your writing. I would have entitled that piece 'garbage' instead of spooky. The CIA should definitely use that in their underground torture camps.

Micawber,
As I have previously stated, I don't have the necessary equipment to record music to my computer nor do I have the money to buy it. I don't know how hard it is to find a scanner in the UK but it's quite easy to upload pictures over here. And thank you for the compliment on my 'pretty, stripey (I didn't realize 'stripey' was a word)' shirt though I'm certain I'm not as dedicated a follower of fashion as you may be...

-was I right or was I right... still haven't posted anything and I dought you have anything worth posting.

It isn't clear to me what the 'musical understanding' is that you're looking for. -That is precisely my point. thank you for giving me one for free.

Though proving you wrong hasn't been a difficult task thus far, I 'dought' (literate people say doubt - I guess you are a dumb ass) you can back me into a corner. -I must have you in a corner allready if your ripping on my spelling at this point... is that the best you can do? Your really reaching on these aren't you.

sounds like you read this in a book and posted it up here thinking no one would call you on it. I am begining to wonder if you actually play an instrument... come to think of it... let me address the white elephant in the room... an architect who can't afford a basic sound card so he can make music on the computer??????????????????????????
you must be some architect." -this one just was so good I am going to keep it attached and get some more mileage out of it.

- Where did you originally learn about the 12 bar blues? I am a graduate of MIT, it's a music shcool -it probably wouldn't interest you, they don't teach history or architecture.
You're calling me out on referring to 'I, IV, V' as the 12 bar blues? And you're wondering if I play an instrument based on this? Yes I am, cause you had no idea what a 1 4 5 was until I told you. -Another freebie... wow you really don't know anything about music do you?

Then it's suddenly why can't I afford a basic sound card if I'm an architect? Wow, to hear you say it just sounds so pathetic... say it again, please?

You're not doing very well and anyone with a brain can see that.
-if your the only one in here there is definately no one with a brain around.

I'm not in a position to waste money on a 'sound card' right now. -again a freebie, your right... it would be a waste for you.

You're able to share your audio with others and you still haven't gone anywhere - you must be some musician...
-this is the only good one you have had... and it's a pretty good one. 2shay that's going on your greatest hits album... something has to fill it up right?

you have an audio file on your page. so easy to sit there and judge w/o posting the labor of your love... I guess that's why you didn't... so you could fire away at people -safe from the hail of laughter that would accompany the posting of your music...

As I have previously stated, I don't have the necessary equipment to record music to my computer nor do I have the money to buy it. -if you hadn't alienated everyone on this site right away with your rude remarks, someone would have told your dumb @$$ that any computer with a sound card could be used to record you... but that's not really what you wanted anyway was it? What DID they teach you at architectural school cause it certainly wasn't 'how to think'.

I don't know how hard it is to find a scanner in the UK but it's quite easy to upload pictures over here. -wow, ripp on the uk, you are a two time winner... no class AND no intelligence.

And thank you for the compliment on my 'pretty, stripey shirt - I'd thank him too, cause I thought for sure by now someone would have ripped on that french poodle you call a haircut.
