First Vote on what genre you play THE MOST,
Then write your sub genre your message and include the gear you use.
(brand, pickups, bridge style if modified, string guages, active or passive etc, tubes or solid etc.)

This is kinda an experiment that i slightly know the answer to, but I'd like to see how true it is. Thanks! :D

I checked the "blues" box above, cuz I play so many different versions of the blues - country, rock, traditional...it's amazing how much material is based on 1 - 4 - 5, & yeah, I know that doesn't automatically mean it's blues, but it simplifies things. I'd rather play more challenging art rock or jazzy stuff, really, & that's what I've written over the years, but sometimes simple is best.

My gear? Depends on what I'm doing.

Solo - Dean Artists Model acoustic, Washburn A-type mandolin or a Kentucky F-style, low-end Ovation Applause 12-string, Peavy effects pedal (chorus/flange/dig delay), Shure SM58 & whatever amp/PA I get my hands on. (I sold my lil PA years ago, when I all but stopped doing solo gigs)

TFRB - Peavy 400 Combo, Aria Pro II bass (4 string), SounDesign 5-string bass, Zoom effects pedal (tuner)

other stuff - black on black Squire Strat (with USA Strat guts & Fender locking nut), Danelectro (dunno the model, but it sounds good & has a lousy sustain), Revelation (Hohner with Floyd Rose, which I HATE!), various small Peavey solid state amps, various pedals, Korg DSS-1, 1/2 moon tambourine, psaltry, fruitwood recorder, Oscar Schmidt high strung guitar (can't figger out where to use this thing), Ibinez violin (which I cannot play, but I'm trying!), & lotsa other odds & ends that I've never used on stage.

Ovation Applause 12-string? that must sound like angels singing.

Like progressive? If you like technical and melodic try dream theater. they are probably the most well known prog bands.

AV,

I play Les Paul 1960 Reissue Classics. I have a Mesa Triple Rec w 4x12, Mesa Roadster Combo, Mesa Subway Rocket, POD PRO preamp, I use whatever amp works for a given gig. My tone is basically a JCM 800 amp wise, I just use Mesa's to get it.

I have a full complement of effects pedals.

I play classic guitar riff rock up to 90s alt rock.

I do know that mesa have amazing tone.
Its full tube right, no solid?
I wish they made bass amps FULL* tube
I came close with the Ashdown series, which I though sounded beautiful, I might switch from my GK to Ashdown sometime in the future, but I also havent tried GK's Goldline, becuase I love the sound of aluminuim speakers (if played responsibly).

*Not 75% tube 25% solid or one tube and preamp.

AV, if you listen to commercial radio, groups like Nickleback, Creed. Most of those groups use Mesa's. A Mesa Dual Rec is just a standard in the studios these days.

Yea mine are all tube, except for my POD unit. Im a tube head but realistically with a tube screamer and maybe an eq pedal I can get the tone I want out of most any amp. The sound I go after as I said before is a Marshall JCM 800. I just never could find one and at some point started using the Mesa's and have never gone to anything else.

For metal you can probably use SS amps. I think Dimebag used them in Pantera, Randalls. If I hadnt read that I would have thought he was using a modded Marshall.

My main guitar right now is a Hamer Slammer with a H/S/H 3-pickup config and a 5 position switch, lock down and whammy bar. I use a Hughes & Kettner AX80 solid state amp with a multieffects pedal mostly for live playing although, if it's a small gig, I'll just use my Roland Cube 30 with it's onboard effects. For recording I'll play my multieffects through my '62 Fender Deluxe and/or 50 watt Marshall tube head and Crate 4-12 cab if I'm doing just the lead guitar track alone. If I'm recording the full band I try to keep as much as possible through headphones so for the rhythm guitar or guitar scratch track, I'll run my multieffects into an old Lee Jackson tube guitar pre amp and straight to the mixer.
I play mostly classic rock in a live band situation with some blues and a little bit of country (not enough to hurt) thrown in. My own style I would brand Boogie Woogie Hard Rock.

Oh, and I use .009's GHS and a Morley Bad Horsie wah.

Figures, no category for punk.

Punk - 50%
Metal - 25%
Classic Rock - 25%

I use a '72 Strat modded with active EMGs, locking nut and Kahler Spyder tremola bar for the punk and classic rock stuff. I use a '79 reissue of a '59 Les Paul modded with active EMGs, locking nut and a Washburn Wonderbar tremola for the metal stuff. I have a 2000 Les Paul Standard that serves as a backup. I use GHS light guage (0.10) strings on all guitars.

I have a 2001 Marshall 100 watt TSL and a 100 watt B-52 for amps.

I use Boss analog and digital effects.

For acoustic, I have a '76 Martin D-28, a 1995 Takamine 12-string, a 1985 Seagull 12-string and an Ibanez PF 6-string.

For bass I have a Fender Precision and an Ampeg amplifier.

Heavy Acid Blues/Blues

big deal = Marshall 1959 head w/2 peavey 4x12's. Laptop loaded with N.I.'s Guitar Rig 2 with foot switch..

little deal = 2 small peavey auditions with same laptop into them/house amp with laptop in..

54/57 RI Fender Strats, mij mostly, stock pickups, flattened bridge, 10's, passive, 6550's for more headroom (tubes)

Custom Hamer Flying V with Kahler Trem, sounds good but the trem sucks.

Ibanez Rg550 Roadstar in road cone orange, with a floyd rose trem, sounds good but the trem sucks.

I think I just like a hardtail or a guitar with no trem better, period.

OK Viking, here it goes.

I play pop the most, because most of the singer/songwriters in this area who are recording music and need musicians are writing pop music. Sub genres include pop/rock, pop/country, pop/Contemporary Christian. I also have had clients doing gospel, world, blues, jazz, and R&B, among other styles of music.

Gear:

Primary bass - Traben Chaos Obsession (http://www.trabenbass.com/chaos_obsession.php) 5-string

Secondary bass - Ibanez ATK700 (currently discontinued, but the ATK300 is basically the same bass; see http://www.ibanez.com/BassGuitars/model-ATK300)

Third bass - Yamaha RBX460 (discontinued model... alder body, maple neck, rosewood board, PJ setup with Basslines Quarter Pound PJ set, Basslines 2-band pre, Hipshot B-style bridge) I plan on converting this bass to a fretless neck when I can afford to do so.

Amp - Ampeg BA115HP (http://www.ampeg.com/products/bassamp/ba115hp/index.html)

Mogami Gold instrument cables for recording and live performances

I had to vote World, because I play Reggae these days.

My main rig:

Squier Stagemaster (neck-through model) with Seymore Duncan PA-TB1 original trembuckers. Floyd Rose Trem. 10-46 strings.

Fender Studio 85 SS amp.

Effects:
Seymour Duncan Pickup booster
Crybaby wah (modded)
Boss tuner
Tech-21 Tri OD
Voo Doo Labs Tremolo
Digitech Synth Wah
Digitech Chorus
Digitech Phaser
Boss Noise reducer
Digitech Delay
Dugitech Flanger

My back-ups are fairly similar. For outdoors I use a Fender Hot Rod Deville 410 Tube amp.

Pick of my main stuff:

hey thanks for the info guys
PocketGroovesGSO you have some nice basses, and i know all of them you are talking about, all fine quality gear.

Actually everyone here has pro gear. But alas, I was kind expecting more activity here. Once again the metal head has no idea what appeals to people hahaha. nah, but thanks for going along with this natural loner.
its interesting to see what other people use and what they use it for.
