It's not so much that we hate ROCKBAND as a game, heck a lot of us are gamers on occasion. It is just that a lot of people who play those games all of a sudden think they are musicians. Truth be known they probably could not form an F chord to save there lives.

I can play but can't tell you what key anything is in. Even my songs. Maybe a few I can.

Plenty of artists' can't read a lick of music .. and they play WELL. (that finely tuned ear)

Plenty of music majors can compute relative minor etc. with the flick of the wrist, but are awful musicians.

Ideally, someone in the middle can be easier to cope with, but not always.

Anyways I start with a chord and that chord designates the key. If that, or I cannot match what I'm trying to do then I lower or higher the starting chord.

This has to be honest confused me for some time and I've never gotten an exact answer. For me in any case it is the first chord or note struck that tells everyone where to be?
