Hey Jacq....Hey Bassboy!!

Yeah...my daughter..... she's something  ! She's anticipating a comment back from g! She's bummin cuz he hasn't noticed!!

J-- I pride myself in the fact that I can sing male vocals!! I can do female stuff too.... I can even sing country.....but I prefer to do the male songs!! Cuz that's mostly what I'm into, and even though I can sing higher pitched female tune.... My voice is probabably most comfortable in the Tenor / Alto range!! I sang soprano in the HS Choir though!! :)

Yeah, it just seems that men have the impression that it's impossible for a female to sing the tunes they play (male tunes).....and then by looking at me, you wouldn't probably think I could do it either..... I'm like 4' 11" , petite little thing......

But, when ppl do give me the chance, they are pleasantly surprised and can't believe such a big voice come out of such a little thing!! :P

and I'm also full of energy -- it's infectious :D !

Still haven't though of any funny stories while out giggin!! I'm still rackin my brain!! :?

Hey Jacq --

Checked it out!! First off, let me say that I'm really not a country music individual...... I like some of it, Randy Travis, Shania Twain, Bonnie Raitt.... reason being is my dad's band played alot of country tunes.... I've sang alot of country tunes.... and I just can't stand to listen to it much anymore.... I guess cuz it's all the same to me! BUT, with that said....

I actually think you have a really good country voice..... It was a little pitchy in spots....kinda watch that.....

Otherwise, you sound like a country singer to me! :D

It's kind of a pain, cause I'm a short and cute girl. Most of the offers I get to try out for bands are courtesy. It doesn't help that most of the time, people have a set image of their band involving a certain type of singer. Which is usually a dude. I don't like being restricted. But I guess being the last of the pick gives you more freedom to do what you want since they've mostly given up. The best bands are developed around each other anyway, not set up perfectly. Now I just need a chance to come along.
But most the time, a group of dudes won't want the drama a woman would bring. Not to mention being known as a 'chick band'. That's all they'll be known for. Which is unfortunately true. Read a music magazine and that will always be emphasized. How chicks can do it, too. Like we couldn't in the first place, psh. Setting up a safety net like that is always a downfall, cause that draws attention. People just aren't willing to budge to fit a woman's voice. Because naturally, our voices are different than men's and they're very constricted by style and genre. Would rather find a new version of Creed's lead singer than do their own sh*t, knowing what they got. Playing their strengths, instead of 'Hero' all over again with a person who just can't have the same voice. Which is a bust to everyone, not just women.

LemonTea, could you upload some examples of your singing? I would bet you can cut through alot of the nonsense you encounter when linking up with a band that way....they'll be interested in your voice first.

Hi there,

Well I am new at the auditioning thing, although I have been singing for several years, I auditioned for my first band, and I asked before hand would you ever be interested in a female vocalist, and they said "well sure". So I went to audition and I had to pick 10 songs out of like 25 and they were all male vocalist. As a matter of fact I was then only female that auditioned. I sang anything from Tonic to Collective Soul. That was my first audition ever. I dont know about you but I try and challenge myself, with different songs to see if I can sound just like the vocalist. Its worked really well for me. The second band I auditioned for had mostly originals which really threw me off.. I learned 6 of there originals that their previous singer had recorded with them, and the rest of the band wanted me to make them my own, and I did. I ended up making the band. And again before I auditioned they said they were open to a female vocalist. Even if they say they are open doesnt really mean they are. But this band proved that they really were open for it. I have also been turned down to even audition because I am a female vocalist. I do understand to some extent, because some of the lyrics, are a man talking about a woman. It just wouldn't be right changing the lyrics of a cover song to make it sound right for a female vocalist.

welcome Bekki!! :D

Good luck in finding some ppl to jam with out there in Texas!! I bet if ya started a thread for TEXAS MUSICIANS - you'd get some hits!! It also would be helpful if you uploaded something with your vocals on it so we/they can check you out..... I went to your profile, but no audio clip :(

When I do cover tunes, I do try to sound like the vocalist as much as possible, but I also try in a way to make it my own in spots, so that it's not EXACT..... but you've got the right idea.... ya don't want to go changing anything that doesn't need changing.... I've said that before in another thread around here somewhere.....

Well, sometimes you can't change words in a song to make it fit for a female to be singing it...... but sometimes ya can and it works out good!! On the ones that ya can't, I just sing it as it is..... that doesn't mean I'm lesbo or anything....

I do some Ted Nugent Tunes....... Free for All .. Cat Scratch Fever.... I changed some words around here and there..... I always LOVED the reaction on ppls faces when I changed up a phrase in cat scratch.....first a look of shock.... and then everyone gets a giggle out of it!!

A female - if she has the tonal value in her voice, she can pull of male tunes no problem......'cuz we're just kewl like that 8) !!

ROCK ON 8)
