Well, it's definitely interesting.. Charles, I told you in the past that I wasn't going to sugar-coat anything with you. It would be hard for me to believe with what I heard that you would be a singer. You haven't really taken the steps to learn songwriting techniques either. I know it's probably hard to hear, but I just don't think music is your thing.

Once again, I'm hearing poetry, not music lyrics.

Maybe you should shift your focus to poetry, and spoken word poetry performances. I just think it's a better avenue for you to take. It's not like it's any kind of lesser art-form, and it seems to be what you write anyway. I would say that the biggest part of being a musician is performing live. It's the most rewarding part of what makes a musician do what they do. I just don't see you being able to pull off any kind of musical performance. But you can do spoken word poetry. There are places that have that, and I think you would find it just as rewarding.

I'll give you an E for effort. You got your voice out there and let it be heard. That's what expression is all about. But I can't for the life of me believe that you have a career in music.

PS.. You might want to think about changing the title of your demo. Please coke 2 me?? Hopefully not a Freudian slip.

I had first titled the song "E for Effort". I'll think I change it back.

You are right, I don't have a career in music, never claimed I wanted one. Look at my profile. I just do it for fun. And in doing that, I am highly successful. And Shark6 it was a slip. I prefer Pepsi. But that wouldn't make sense would it? "Please Pepsi To Me"

I'd have to go with Shredd on this one. You are definitely more of a poet than a singer. While you're no Jim Morrison, he was a poet as well I believe.

Don't take this wrong, but while listening, I thought you were either american indian or black. Could be way off base, but I could hear your voice doing commentary/narration in an american indian movie/documentary. That's just what I imagined when I heard the voice 8)

Not being a musician is no sin and certainly doesn't stop many people I know lol. Do what you want to do, just be humble and respectful, there are many people who have spent there lives becoming a musician and don't take disrespect lightly. By all means do check into spoken word, it's very big around here, and we include it in our shows occasionally.

Okay, you can recite a poem. Okay, you can compose electronic music. Okay, perhaps you cannot sing well. BUT, you CAN search for a vocalist to work with you and SING your songs. Put it together now. Compose your electronic tunes, write some lyrics that fit the tune, get somebody in to sing the lyrics. NOW you're a songwriter. Now get busy...

No, I didn't take offense. Quite the opposite. Growing up in a white society I sounded white.(my father was an army officer during the 60's and 70's) The other african-american kids used to ask me, "why I sounded so white." I was embarassed, or didn't know what to say." After high school I found a black college, and adopted a southern black accent, or metropolitan. Shredd6 and sanso, and jimmydanger are right in that I am not trained. But that has never stopped me. I guess I have a hard head. Fisherman Bob- you will see something tonight. See you all later-Thanks

honestly, I SUCK at golf... Although I do like it, and when I say suck.. I mean After 2 years of golfing 2x a week, my average was between 100-110.

But here's the thing, I do it for fun.. no harm no foul, right?

Now take a friend of mine as example#2:

He is beyond suck. His score is 150+ and possibly over 200 but after 24 strokes, we stop counting on any given hole.

He won't pick-up and move on. He will just swing away, over and over, as each swing nets the ball flopping forward between 1 and 10 feet per hit. This poor bastard just has no skill. But here's the kicker.. he LOVES the game 5x as much as I do.. He goes effin nuts for golf.

Now the real kicker is that his poor performance adds up to people getting backed up begind us.. to the point that some have intentionally hit balls into where we were (which is a HUGE no-no in golf)...

So the real question is.. is The Writer the musical equivalent to my golf game, where it's simple and harmless fun, or is the more the equivalent to my friend who is so horribly bad at it, that he actually causes a remarkable annoyance to those playing around him?

Hi Writer.

I haven't listened to be honest. I posted a message on my top 10 BM bands which for the most part was a little misconstrued, and which in essence leads me back to my first sentence.

You are obviously a very intelligent person so I would, (If it were me and I were able to step back a little so I could see). Take stock of what I want to do and then target that but with obvious provisions in sight too.

Q 1. Do you want to play music? I've not heard anyone ask that, just tell you to do learn an instrument. (I play a great Kazoo!)

Q 2. What styles of music do you like? You've missed the whole point of a forum if you don't tell anyone what your favourite stuff is?

Just my anodized two cents worth. It means nothing after all because it is just formed in words, not actions.

Good luck.

Thanks very the compliment, I do not take it lightly. A lot of my peers think me a space cadet.
Yes-I do like music very much, and this forum gives me an opportunity to learn music in an unorthodox teaching method. The people here don't half-step. They are quick to let you know what sounds good, and if you are taking the easy way out. I have learned the basics of keyboard, recently bought a Squire Bass and a Acoustic Bass Amp. Shedd6 was absolutely right when he said people on this forum were super-intelligent. And until I started conversing with you (Artists) my respect has grown. I believe you could be crafty safecrackers if you wanted to. And I mean that has a compliment! As for the type of music I like to learn. It's hard to finger just one. But if I had to pick one it would be the blues. Then Rock, and then Jazz, and Old School Soul. I like some rap, a lot of rap, but rap on the radio, not for sale. I can sing, when I'm super in the mood, or when somebody leads-I am a background singer, strictly.[/quote]

I am just a caddy-shack man. Who every once in a while displays a thrilling surge of of power on the fairways and gets a par sometimes.
As of yet, I do not know my limitations.

NOBODY has ANY limitations if they WORK HARD at something. I knew a guy who couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time who was a basket case at playing guitar. I never saw anybody work so hard at overcoming his deficiencies. Now he's one of the best blues guitarists around. JUS T KEEP WORKING IT.

Man has no limitations, except those imposed upon himself, and I am one that should know that. I don't know why I said that. And I have always said, "I hated my voice." Now I know why! I do sound like a drunk Bill Cosby. Hey, hey, hey! He just happens to be my frat brother maybe thats why. All these years I have been imitating his voice, and I didn't even have to. Such wasted time. Next time in my demo you'll hear Grady from "Sanford and Son" singing "House of the Rising Sun" or "We all Live in a Yellow Submarine." Hayden your name sounds familiar. Did you ever work in Harrisburg, Pa, and put out a CD playing classical Guitar?

PS. My hobby is out-of -the box thinking, and my motto is "once you've got the answer, I change the question." Quoted from some wrestler during the 1980's.
