I have used iso alcohol 90% on pots for years with no problems. The RS stuff is good though, and probably will extend the life of the pot because of the lubricant. Use the color TV tuner cleaner though on your high frequency RF stuff lol.

Well, Steve, I aint as old as you are, but I did catch the tail end of the "good ol days" thanks to some older friends.
I seemed to always have some "older" friends, willing to educate me.
I still remember the first time some guy tried to sell my buddy a bag for $15.00, we were all .
My bud talked him down to $13.00.
Probably the only $13.00 bag ever sold.

One thing to remember about that contact cleaner and I learned this the hard way. Take the knobs off. That contact cleaner will react with some plastics and melt your knobs if you gently pull on the knob (plastic) it will slide off and then clean that volumn wait till it dries and then put the plastic knob back on. I was having the same problem with my Johnson Marquis (Amp) I stoped at a local electronics shop and purchased a large can of contact cleaner and arrived home to make my repair when I started to cleaning thinking oh the money I will save by doing it myself. It worked great just one problem my volumn knob is a little melted LOL!

I've been in electronics all my life and I've never seen contact cleaner react caustically like that to any material. Some pots even have internal plastic parts. I'd say never buy that type of cleaner again!

Oh hell no, dont use WD40 for anything. Throw that stuff away!
You want something to rust? Well ok then use that WD40. I have seen high quality weapons rusted to almost useless because someone cleaned it with WD and put it storage. NO NO NO !!!
It si good for cleaning rusted or greasy wrenches and freeing bolts but it does not work well as a long term lubericant and it will cause rust.

Water Displacement formula #40 is a great product it you use it to do what it was created to do...

Good 'ol WD was originally specifically formulated to keep atlas missiles, (that the military stored outside due to too many weapons of mass destruction and not enough hanger space ) from rusting away. Unlike most petroleum products, WD40) stratifies UNDER water instead on top. A fantastic piece of chemical engineering that made its inventor quite rich.

For less destructive weapons, and musical instruments, it's probably preferable to use a more apropriate product for cleaning and lubrication purposes.

Hereafter, use good 'ol gun oil on those shootin' irons!

Fish oil? Is that true or are ya bullshittin'?
I was always under the impression that WD40's ingredients was a secret known only to an elite few.

Anyways, although it may work well for polishing up the chrome on the 'ol Strat, I'd keep it away from those variable resistors.(probably not a good idea to put it in your pot nether, since the stuff burns like crazy. )
