Uploaded a song called Clusterfunk. I'm playing drums on it. This is a drumbeat I came up with that sounded cool. Whenever I played it for other drummers they would say, "WTF". One drummer told me it's in 7/8 time. I don't know. If anyone figures it out, let me know. :) The drumbeat was easy, but when I started trying to add the other parts, things got crazy. Bass line screamed for funk and everything else just clusters in there. Thus the name. It's definitely experimental and not for everybody. Really playing outside the box!   :?: :o

Not getting an honest listen as my phones are mainly for gaming and lack much bass...which I'm sure I'm missing. With that said, I really liked it. Some strong licks and feeling that smack you 8)

Sounds like one of the drum riffs I used to play on a couple of songs some time back. I like it. I think you should use harmonies on the lead and create a tune that wraps over the initial staggering beat and perhaps if you have a way add some hand toms cantina style in the places where the breaks are.

Nice one.

Ratsass, it's the bomb. Me like very much! Yes, 1234567/1234567/. I like the non-conventional time signatures especially the ones with da funk. I'm glad you did it to me. 8)

I dunno. It seems a bit "loose" in places. If ya tightened it up a bit it would be way cool. Great idea. I love 7/4.

I like the idea of doubling harmony leads, too, Chippy.

One thing I've heard ppl do in 7/4 is to have two lead instruments playing 4 beats each per measure, the 1st comes in on the 1 & the 2nd on the 4. That staggering sound almost makes it sound like 4/4, but warped.

You're a good bassist, rat.

  I think a "bit" loose is an understatement. That's one of the reasons I haven't posted it before. I was a "bit" apprehensive about posting it here, and I really appreciate all the responses. Maybe I need to dig it out and rework it a bit. And, Philby, thanks for what you said about me being a good bassist. On other people's music, I'm adequate at best, but when doing original music, the bass parts come really easy for some reason. May be because I never studied the rules for playing bass.

Eh..the more you play with others, the easier it gets, man. I'll bet you could do it if you were interested enough, & be more than adequate, from what I've heard from you thus far.

But, if you wanna just stick to your guitar work, that's quite cool, cuz you're good at that, too.

fisherman bob's 2 rules of bass playing: Rule 1) play your ass off until it sounds good. Rule 2) See rule 1

It is so cool. To tighten it up a bit, I have some ideas coming from my legit black book of magic tricks. Make sure that you are counting-1234567/1234567 or it may work better to think 1234-123/1234-123. In other words there are alternating measures one measure in 4 the other in three. Also, you should consider using a metronome for a few minutes. Whatever you do, don't lose the drive of the piece. Also, I really like where the guitar takes it up an octave and I think you should save that until you are deeper into the piece. Just my 2 cents.

I decided to go back and listen to all of your samples and they're pretty darned good dude. I swear to goodness my son promised he would teach me how to download...or is it upload...some of my music.
