There are innumerable songs that exist on vinyl & CD's that won't be played live, cuz it's just too hard to pull off. Nothing wrong with that, as long as there are plenty of songs you CAN reproduce live on the recording.

I agree Phil. There is nothing wrong with that. It is just not what I would do with my music. But the reality is, I am not trying to sell anything. If I were, I am sure I would have a different approach, and opinion.

Aren't some songs either album fillers or just testing the waters with fans? Hmmm I don't know about the other stuff frankly?

If you write something in the studio and it cannot be reproduced live just for the sake of band members (In the case of many here). It certainly does not stop well known bands from hiring extras to sing parts or even play and added instrument.

Aphex Twin is an artist I like. He's a composer in a very odd and eerie style but always manages to play live when he does with nothing missing, Mike Oldfield, Jean Michell Jarre. The list goes on even for solo artists so I don't see that part being an excuse really.

Just my take of course.

GO back and listen listen objectively to some of your fav songs. You might find things and parts and say was that a mistake they just left in.I NEVER NOTICED THAT BEFORE.

I heard Steely Dan never toured live because they were just a bunch of studio musicians who got together..
