Well what are you?

I'm not a springer any more though I do feel as young as I ever did. (Bad mindset that). Anyway are you stuck in your ways so much that any change in musical style/form will feel irksome to you, will you change if that chance came across and it was worth it or would you stick to your own roots?

Me? I'd change if it meant I got on.

I love the way man kind is always looking for consistancy in change.

Dude if you want to "go with the flow" for the sake of work / art then by all means thats what you should be doing. But be consistant. For me I am doing it (my style) because thats what I love. Would I play with a country band for big money. Probably, just long enough to get bank to where I want to be.

If I were an extreamly versatile studio type player I'd whore to whomever has the jacksons. But, I am not.

Great thread chip, I have always been versitile enough to change. In my musical career I have played in metal bands, country bands, Jazz, and Funk bands, recently with the loss of musicians in our band my wife and I were talking and she said why don't you go back to your roots. I just laughed and said after all these years I am not sure exactly what that is. I have had tons of fun playing all styles of music. After some thought though, I have come to the conclusion that Classic Rock more toward the heavier side is my roots. I just wished I could find some stability in the music biz. because people are always coming and going. It turns out that I have created some stability buy running the band and playing a lot of the same clubs and festivals. But the people still seem to be coming and going. So is that really stability? It's really just a pain in the ass.

I'm pretty good at adapting my style to fit other genres, but I need to learn some more styles, possibly more jazz and funk oriented stuff to round out my playing. Wouldn't mind learning a few hot country chicken pickin' licks to add to my arsenal either. Never know when you're gonna need them.

Yea, you rarely find musicians with the exact same influences as you. So, you evidently get introduced to new sounds/styles.

Personally, it's a constant-shifting process. And I view it as a good thing, since I rarely lose track of my own style... just taking on a different shape with different undertones.

And no, I wouldn't make music I don't wanna make, for the sake of money. Otherwise, I'd be already at it... but nah.

I like the ability to be a musical chameleon. Music is fun and all genres have similarities. So actually I don't want to change...I want to play everything. Oh I must add, money is a good influence but not the extent where I lose myself. I don't like plastic music. I recall an Eminem piece of junk that sounded like he banged out a rhythm on a chair and made up a rap to go with it. Now that is when I just say "no".

Chippy change is important. Right now Im just writing a bunch of songs like spring breeze. For some reason I dont feel like rockin right now. True to my roots. I dont have a clue what those are,,BACH , DION, BEATLES, MENDELSON, BOSTON, ALLMANS,FITE, FARLOW, JIMMY SMITH, couldnt tell you.
You asked me about the last song on my preview, cant stop loving you, well you want a real laugh,,,,,I actually won the billboard song contest with that as a country song many years ago.... If you ask nicely I will put up that old recording for one day [only] ,,,for you. IF that wont get you laughing,then nothing will.

I was just listening to my San Francisco Symphony/Metallic colloboration CD. I just love it! My son who is open to various styles but plays no instrument turns it up loud. I told him that if I were in that symphony I would be so in to the moment. I probably would have had to stand up a few times because of the spirit of the music. It is one of my favorite CDs.

I can't wait until next Sunday when I get to jam with the Celtic band. Last week I played with 2 of my favorite guitarist. One is Japanese who was raised in Brazil, the other is ...white. Dr. Chung from Taiwan, who played viola, sat-in with us. He is straight up classical. He loves jazz as long as he can stay on the page. I was yellin' out the keys for him to play in, when time came to improvise... and he was good. Music is a blast!

There is no such thing as music that's not my thang. I would love to bang my head, the problem is getting my hair to move like that

I kind of think my story as of late kind of answers this question. Nothing wrong with change. In fact, it was a turn for the better in my case.
