We used to throw this band together with me and my bass player and then a guitarist and drummer from a different band that my bass player played in, just to play a little club on Thursday night every once in awhile. We never had rehearsed (we all knew a lot of the same songs and were all seasoned musicians) so we called this band Trainrex. :) :D

If I take the time to learn stuff for an audition, I'll give them at least 2 hours to get their collective shits together. If they can't do it, yeah, I usually tell them I'm looking for something else.

Last audition I went to, the one guitarist was trying with every fiber of his being, but just didn't have the experience to play the stuff they were striving for. The other one had huge tone issues. I couldn't grasp anything he was playing because it was such a lousy, junked up sound. I politely tried to address this, but he was so damned sure he was right that it was senseless to try to help. (He was one of those guys who had bought very good equipment, & figured that the quality of guitar & amp would carry his lack of knowledge of effects, or something. I really hate the sound when ppl think that "more is better" when it comes to effects. I honestly couldn't tell what KEY he was playing in!) The drummer was pretty good, & adamant that I should be their guy, but I just wasn't gonna have any of it. It was gonna take too long, imo, to get these guys to the point that we could play in public, so I quietly bowed out, saying I had personal life issues that needed taken care of, & I'd call them if & when the situation changed.

Philby, I would have talked to the drummer in private and told him of the issues and that as long as they had those issues, they would have a tough time finding anyone worth their salt to fill the position. Maybe he would have had the time to work on them as it wasn't your place to do so. Either that or steal him away and put together a band with other good musicians. I hope you got his contact info. :)

two words come to mind: "My Space"

Though I really don't like that particular social site, and only go there when I have to, I think perhaps scenarios such as yours could be avoided by folks posting samples of themselves for the world to see.

Personally, I've visited bands sites & after hearing their stuff, decided it's really not my style , etc.

I dunno, just my most humble of .02

ratsass - I seem to have a lot of drummers to play with, for some reason, but can't seem to find a guitarist worth anything, these days. I didn't get his # cuz I couldn't get him alone, but I know where he lives.

Still waiting for that gtrist my drummer found to find time when Dddonnie is available.

Last gtrist I tried couldn't cut the mustard, but was anxious to start up a new project in the samo samo that I find myself disinterested in.

LOL this is a great thread... J you handled it ok... everyone is right, you just say, sorry guys, this is not what I'm looking for. Sorry for wasting your time... They will get there feelings hurt at first but it will pass.

As long as your cool and not condescending, they will be ok. And that proves your an ok guy for sticking it out that long...:)

I might have made it an hour on a good day myself.... maybe...:)

lol

X!

On the opposite side I once went to an audition and fell apart. I had no idea where they were coming from at all?

They just started and I had to play along as best I could which was miserable frankly. I've said before on here I'm not a big fan of grunge Metal and this was just that. I found no Melody, just hard hitting ratios that belong in the math world..

The old Drummer was there and boy was he hot!
I wonder if he got anywhere? I suppose I will never know?

Anywho I think its largely about what you are looking for mixed with a large tinge of Chemical reaction.
