Seems that there is no such thing as a master guit player. Only instrument to have so many people approach it from a different direction. AMAZING,EH..

He said it was tough at first but now he's gone way above that plateau. My hat's off to people like that.

Jimi Hendrix was also a lefty. He strung the guitar "backwards" and played on the oposite side. AND Jimi began his carreer as an Isley Bro. That is why so much of their music featured guitar solos.

When I was a kid just starting to play guitar I wanted to play "lefty"; it felt more natural (even tho I'm right-handed) I wish I would have stuck with it.. instead of training myself to be "conventional ".. Ahh, well...

You know, I see so many kids who have a difficult time playing viloin "conventionally" because they are lefties. After learning about Billy Mclaughlin's ordeal, I began feeling guilty making the kids playing their instruments conventionally.

I know my opinion is unpopular, but even if a chap plays in an extraordinary fashion, if the genre isn't to my liking, that's that.

Yngwie Malmsteen is a great guitarist but I don't like it. It's like ordering a hamburger and getting Steak Tartar.

People like what they like, and not like what they don't. You can do a Mariah Carey song and do it very well, but I'll always grimace if I have to listen to it.

We played a short set on Sat. night for a biker thing.

One guy asked if we knew any biker tunes. I said very meekly, "ah like BORN TO BE WILD?" He indicated yes.

I told him calmly we don't play that style of music. He was a little ruffled and so I bought him a drink.

Later on, I was basically baby-sitting a rather large biker who was very toasted.

A day later we have a new roadie/security/ rough customer to deal with unsavory types and a few tunes we're supposed to play to keep his entourage happy.

Is there a MASTER GUITAR player? Sure there is.

Only thing is the one you are looking for has to be within the genre you like, else they can sound like a guitar god and you may not be satisfied/happy.

(I heard some woman bashing Satriani and I was about to give her grief when I realized it's the same thing. She doesn't like the genre he plays in, thus he will never be anything to her but some flashy, fast moving guitar guy and thus "she didn't like any of it".) (Meanwhile I was gasping in disbelief)

Hey, Capt. We were playing at a bar one night and when we took a break, this big ol' biker dude comes up to me, gives me a bear hug and says, "Man, ain't nothin' I like better than to hear a fat boy play guitar."
I replied, "Ummm, errr....Thanks,... I think."
I guess a compliments a compliment, huh? :?

HELL YEAH!

I heard one night I played in a very unassuming place, "I was glad you played well this evening."

I said WHY?

He said, "cause I'm in a sh*t mood and if I had to hear LAY DOWN SALLY one more time, someone was going home in a body cast."

I just said "thanx" and I skulked away.

3 minutes later we were trying to figure out what we would be playing in place of TEARS IN HEAVEN.

WHEN IT COMES TO COMPLIMENTS, EVEN THE BACK HANDED COMPLIMENTS ARE BETTER THAN THE CHEAP SHOTS.

(Always take it as a compliment, they hate it when you get a positive spin out of whatever they thought was going to be negative remark.)

Oof now that's a SHOT!!!

WTF is up with a guy that will say that to a female performer who is playing that evening?

You want to say something mean, at least wait till the end of the fing set..

PS: You want to look like a jerk, heckle someone while others are trying to listen to what's being played. (The whole place will notice your behavior(s), unless you just plain get thrown out on your ear.)
