Sans makes a great point; when you're doing original material a lot of time is spent learning at rehearsal. But there is no excuse for not knowing your parts in a cover band; DTMA.
I'm about to hold our first practice as a new band this weekend.
Pretty bleepin siked too...!
Ours is maybe a bit different, in that not only will we do csome covers, but largely my wife's stuff.
But, the stuff is going to be developed from simple vox/piano into full band arrangement & so as a band, we're going to all have input/idea sharing.
What I'm doing to help/speed the process, is a blog page with links to the chord charts, and to MP3's of the basic tune(s) for the fellas to prepare with & start the creative processes for when we do sit down together.
I wonder if this question of how best to run a practice would largely depend upon the bands goals?
Meaning, are you heading toward decent paying gigs...or more of a 'if we make any money, great but that's not the goal..'
