Just got back from the Lei Day Polynesian festival in Vegas, where shredd6 played as a member of one of the bands. It was an excellent day for it, sunny and warm with a number of booths selling food and crafts from that part of the world, and performances by several groups of dancers in traditional costumes. We had a great time and Hale Amano played a nice 4 or 5 song set.

I took a bunch of pictures, met Shredd6 and visited with him and the band for a while afterward, and in general had a great time.

Here are some of the dancers, they performed in groups of a half dozen or so usually, ages ranged from about 5 to early teens.

Hahaha.. I better duck then. I was using my SS Fender Eighty Five dude.

Yesterday was freaking awesome. I don't know, it's hard to describe sometimes, but I love these festivals. You would just have to be there to experience one. I love family friendly events.

I met with Paleopete and his Sister. Both very nice people. We all had a fun time. I appreciate them coming out to see us. We only played about 5-songs, but it was well worth playing.

Thanks again for coming Paleopete. You did end up picking the best day to see the band.

Got a few more pics from Lei Day.

Burt- Drummer. Chillin'. Nobody ever seems to get pics of our drummer, so I just wanted a good one of Burt.

Hawaiin BBQ is freaking amazing stuff. The food is outstanding!! This is Huli Huli Chicken with rice and some unknown noodle stuff I had no clue what it was. Hahaha.Tasty though.

So anyway.. I was salivating at the Chicken rotisserie and the smokey awesomeness emanating from it. So a guy turns to me and yells out "HUI HUI CHICKEN!! YOU WANT SOME HUI CHICKEN??"

And I'm like "f**kin a right I do!! That looks killer!!" And people started laughing. I didn't think anything of it, I was just laughing with them. I thought they were laughing at my reaction. Which they were, but ..

Well.. See.. I'm kind of a white boy, and I don't know Hawaiian language very good. As it turns out..Uh.

Let me just give you the definition of "HUI":

"HUI SAUCE:
a term commonly used when refering to penis juice...otherwse known as jizz.

"want some hui sauce?"

Hahaha!! So.. Uh.. Yea... Never agree to "HUI" chicken when asked. Always agree to "HULI" chicken.

Hawaiians have a great sense of humor. That's part of what makes these festivals so fun. A lot of good times and laughter involved.

A pic of the crowd from the stage. It was kind of hard to get a pic of the whole crowd. It was kind of hot, so most people wanted to sit in the shade. But it was a really good turn-out.

Pic of some of the dancing. Really cool cultural stuff going on all day. If you look in the back, you'll also see the Hawaiin drummers. I LOVE listening to that stuff!! It just makes you feel like you're in a tropical place. I wish I could have taken a vid, but my batteries went dead. The guys that use the sticks on the logs can do some really crazy rhythm patterns.

Anyway, just thought I'd share some more pics of Lei Day. I do hope we get asked to do it again. It's just a really good time all day long.

This is brilliant! Did the Drummer get to eat the chicken wings? :D
Are they Chicken wings?

No, that was actually a big plate. That's a whole leg quarter (drumstick and thigh) , and a couple of other pieces I'm not sure which part of the chicken they were. Hahaha.. Not asking any questions at that point. Next thing you know they're telling me it's Chicken penis in Hawaiian.

I don't think Burt had any chicken. I'm pretty sure he's a vegetarian. I seem to remember him telling me that one time.

The Chicken was outstanding though. Applewood smoked with kind of a sweet and sour taste. (Uh. oh.. I'm walking right into a joke with that description.) :)

Jealous!

Looked a fabulous day. Ah well here was me thinking your drummer would keel over and I'd get the drippings and a job Lol!

Seriously though these. NeandaPauls, sans, Crip and many more.

All good stuff and what it is about.

Thats so cool. Looks like you are having a big time Shredd.

So you live around Vegas, Ive been thinking of coming out one weekend just for the hell of it. If I do I will try to message you somehow. It would be cool to meet you.

Also its cool to see you and Bill together.

Theres been a lot of bull on here lately about this site and what it is or isnt. But in my case Ive gotten together with Bill and Paul from here. Two very fine people who without this site I would never have met. And seeing pictures of Bill and SHredd together is just awesome. So I think this site is working for some folks.

As I always say get off the couch and get out there amongst the music thats being played in your area.

Shredd I love those rythymic things they do on drums.

to me this site seems to be geared for the people who are dedicated to music, and don't really care to have numerous people say, wow that's awesome blah blah blah, and would rather hear that from other musicians instead, along with having the possibility to meet up with other musicians and have a chance to get to know them and their style before just showin up to jam, even though that might very well be what I do in a few weeks time

Sorry Ted, I got one but didn't post it. Started to and didn't, because I didn't want to make the post that much longer. I always try to get pictures of everyone on stage. I'm also thinking about shrinking one of the pics we took afterward of everyone and posting that. It'll have to wait for now, we're about to head for the Grand Canyon and play tourist for a couple of days. (In a hotel now in a small town in Utah now, about 1 1/2 hours from there.)

Oh, I tried to get a video of some of the dancers too and my batteries died. I guess it wasn't meant to happen.

All the food did look good, we didn't eat till much later though.

JW123 - Meeting Shredd was way cool, he's a really nice guy, and the rest of the band as well, we (my sister and I) thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of them. The only thing that would have been better would be getting to play a little like you and I did, but it wasn't the right setting for that. I didn't even bring my guitar to show off...

It was an excellent day though, clear and warm, the dance groups and percussionists were very enjoyable. First time I've been able to see that in person, you don't really get the feel of it watching in movies etc. I got a big kick out of the youngsters 4 or 5 years old, half lost a lot of the time but still trying. That was cool, you had to just smile...

Stringdancer wrote:Hey Capt. the lab just called your prostheses is almost ready, ok for those who don’t know what I’m talking about let me fill you in.
The last time Capt. Scott got beamed up from the planet there was a malfunction with the transporter, every think got beamed up except Capt. Scott penis, his penis is floating in space, Spock has located the missing penis in space but radiations has reduced the poor thing to the consistency and the size of a french fry.

But don’t feel sorry people Capt. Scott will be outfitted with the newest model, he will be able by remote control the prostheses to expand and retract much like a telescope, the lab is working on changing the frequency of the remote switch, the frequency the lab used for the trail run is no good, when Capt. Scott used it for the first time the telescope didn’t respond however the ceiling fan and the TV got turned on.

Now, see there, Stringdancer. I would have considered that funny, if you hadn't started out on this forum slamming everybody. Kinda like burning the bridge BEFORE you cross. You accomplished absolutely nothing, other than getting on people's nerves and alienating everyone on here. I haven't been slamming you, just mostly ignoring you as your posts have no redeeming values. I see by this last post that you have a good sense of humor, but it's too late in coming. I don't necessarily dislike you, just your posts. I'm only writing this so that, maybe, if you join another music forum, you'll think about it before starting in on people that you don't even know yet. Maybe even make some friends there. Unless being abrasive is what you're on here for. If that's what you're here for, then just keep doing what you do and soon everybody will be too bored to respond. I pretty much already am, so just leave me out of it. Oh, I know you'll have to respond to this, as it seems to be your nature, so go ahead and have a last go at me. You'll get no response back, so you can have the last word. I don't care, and that's really sad on your part, if you want people to have a low opinion of you.
Farewell Stringdancer.
