You know, before I joined this Reggae band, I was making a forum myself. I was an administrator of another forum, so I was using this one to practice my skills on.
Eventually I just used it as my personal board as a scheduler for the band to know what songs we needed to work on. But the band broke up before it ever really got used.
This is what it was looking like:

I haven't been on it in a long time.. Click the new topic button and check out some of the emotes I found. There were actually a lot more crazy ones, but I deleted them so the emote section wasn't so big.
If you click on "Wolves" in the front page, you'll see one of my hard-core songs. Quite a difference from Reggae. Hahaha.. I used it to write too. Got me in the mood for it you know.
To learn how to do this stuff does take time. This board had a forum where you could ask the Invision people questions to your problems and they would walk me through things step by step. Have you done any of that yet?
It does take time to learn the controls, but you can also get someone else who knows to be an administrator. They can have the controls to do whatever they need to do with it, and there are ways to set it up so they can't sabotage it or shut you out of it. there is a security ranking system with forum administrators.
I would say create another forum just to practice on before you mess with the one on your site. Just keep in mind, it takes time.
