I really have no problem with guys who promote these kinds of sites. We had a guy named Dez a while back who was selling advice. At least you have a decent website.

Not trying to tear you down, but I don't really agree with this:

"This is a young mans game as the record companies and agents are looking for the next boy band, the next new sound and it does not come with an old man way past his prime like me."

This is basically a myth.

I see this thrown around a lot and it just simply isn't true at all. I've talked directly with people from WBMI and Sony records, and even they say this isn't true. Record Companies will sign anyone they feel they can make money with. They don't care if you're 80-years old. If it looks like it'll sell to them, they'll sign you.

While it is true, they do search for new youthful talents, that hardly means that it's a "young man's game". Country music, for example, isn't as youth driven as Screamo, and there are a great number of people who get signed who wouldn't be considered young.

Record companies know very well which genres are more youth driven, and which ones aren't so much.

If you want to use that as a tool to convince people to join your site, then so be it. Knock yourself out. But this part of your sales pitch is absolutely 100% a myth.

Seriously not trying to be a prick, but if you feel like you're past your prime, then maybe the Record companies got it right by not signing you just yet. One of the biggest selling points to record companies is enthusiasm and confidence in your abilities to produce good music everyone can prosper from. Basically, you're saying, " I look like an old man, therefore I'm past my prime". Well, find your way around it. Work with it. Use it to your advantage somehow. Do whatever it takes. That's the enthusiasm record companies want to see. Not someone who has thrown in the towel already.

It kind of surprised me to read that. The music in your profile sounds great. Don't throw in the towel just yet dude. Go make it happen.

Great point. I agree that what sells record companies will sign and I feel that what sells is what the music audience likes. Lets face it 40 year old consumers are not buying albums with the same % as the young kids and that is the truth as I have 3 kids. How old are you and what is the last album you bought? If you are my age I will bet you have not downloaded a song or bought an album in a long time. If you are 15-20 I will bet that answer would be very different. Kids spend the money and they connect with those their own age typically. Now can the opposite happen? Sure it can and if I did not think that I would not be promoting my stuff online. Good music will sell period you just need to market it correctly. I am after learning all I can about how to get that done just like anyone else and focusing positive energy on my quest. I feel the internet is driving record sales and the record companies are a dying breed. Keep in mind that my posts are my views and if you agree with part and find it useful then that is great, if you don't agree with some of it that is ok too as there are several ways to get to a goal. Thanks for the comment. If you have any other ideas I am open to hearing them and thanks again.

I can see you are going to make a bunch of friends around here.Right off the bat you are arrogant ,rude, selling your own agenda, and your guitar playing sucks!!!!!
furthermore you come here with finished product that you are protecting from downloading, why, the song song sucks!!
Further furthermore ,You would not last 30 seconds onstage with me ,playing under real conditions being spontaneously creative, and getting the crowds going.ON STAGE IF YOU THINK ,YOU STINK.
HOWEVER , IF YOU BRING YOUR BAND DOWN TO MY NEXT SHOW ,I WILL LET YOU OPEN FOR ME. THE DOOR THAT IS.
MAN YOU HAVE NO CLUE AS TO THE AMOUNT OF TALENT I HAVE COME ACROSS HERE, CRIP HAILEY RATSASS HAYDEN BLIND ALBERT, THE LIST GOES ON AND ON
YOU come on like your a legend in your own mind.
Most of these guys got music degrees you guess wich ones.
Most of these guys have played more gigs than your butt has seen a chair!
ALL of these guys i'm really liking . You I'm not
PS I only have a degree in business and an associate from
Berklee,Boston, and RUN my own company....ANIMALS like you would last about five seocnds before I fired you.
YEAH IT'S A TOUGH WORLD YOU WANT ME TO REALLY GET STARTED!
JUST SO YOU KNOW ,I AM GOING EASY ON YOU ------- POSER!

Those are very good points as well Dave.

I think everyone in the music business will agree that CD sales will steadily decline as a whole due to the internet. These days people seem to more interested in buying one song at a time from sites like I-tunes to download to an I-pod. etc..

I'm 39 by the way Dave. I've downloaded quite a bit of Reggae songs in the past year. But it's more due to my change in genres myself. I made a transition from rock to reggae last year.

I wouldn't expect myself to be as popular as say the Jonas Bros. But it's in the works for the band I'm in now to be signed in the near future with an independent label. I don't think it's very common for a Reggae band to be signed to a major label, but there's always hope, and I do think this is going to be a necessary step for us to take in this genre.

So I guess for me personally, I decided to take a different avenue. One that's not very common for someone of my background which was mainly Heavy Metal/ Rock. I just wanted to step outside the box a little and enter into a genre that is basically ageless. The term "making it" is a broad term. While I may not become a multi-millionaire, a comfortable living can still be had in Reggae music.

We just played a strip club on a bill that was all rock and metal except for our Reggae band, and we walked away the most memorable band of the night.

We were the only band to stop the strippers and patrons in their tracks to come over and watch us. (there was a door in the venue that lead to the strip-club section) When the managers were alerted, they came to see what was going on as well. And when all was said and done, we were the only band asked to play on a weekly basis at the club. So there is life outside of Rock after all.

I'll explain more in a different thread about the other night, because it does raise an interesting question about picking up a youthful market among other things. While I may have stepped outside my own box. The band is stepping out of it's box as well, and right into the one I just jumped out of.. Hahaha.. Does that actually make sense?? I don't know.

We're finding out that there are kids that are very receptive to Reggae. They just didn't ever really know they liked it until they see us.. They don't get exposed to it as much.

But our strategy does seem to be working.

Nice talking to you man. Stick around, there are a lot of great people on this site.

Not sure what your problem is dog. His website just has some quick tutorials on building a website, and other things. The only thing I see that he's selling is a few songs for $.69 per song. He never even mentioned it, I just noticed it myself.

There are people out there who are asking $1,000 to build a website. I don't see him asking for anything like that.
Hell, when Dez was here, all he was selling was a list of contacts for something like $25.
And let's not forget ACE, and The Writer, and that dude who's always trying to sell 100 pieces of equipment and spamming every forum with his ad.

This site has had it's share of odd people who have stopped by and posted weird ads, and tried some scheming. But I'm just not getting that vibe from Dave. Seems like an honest musician to me. And I happen to like his song on his profile.

I personally don't see a problem with him just sharing info, and directing people to his songs for sale. If you don't like them don't buy them. What's the big deal?

I think it's kind of a creative way to get people to his songs. It would be no different if I gave free tips on how to custom wire a guitar, or change the tubes in your amp, and listed songs for sale on the side. I like the strategy behind it.

Try getting outta the 5th grade and turn the caps off.

giongi2 you are really bitter man and that is too bad. Lets remember you are the one who started this attack too now I will finish it.

First off never did I ask for any money so that shows you did not even read what you were ranting about.

Second how can you know how many gigs I have played?

Third I am trying to share what has worked for me free of charge if you have no interest in it then great continue with what ever works for you.

The only thing worse than a true poser is You who I refer to as a troll. Someone who is an online immature baby that has nothing better to do than fly off the handle without looking at what he is flying off the handle about showing all the immaturity in the world.

If you have all these music degrees start acting like it and be someone who adds value to this forum not negative butt crap. Every comment you leave shows us all your lack of maturity and your lack to add something to the forum someone could actually benefit from.

Believe me I have no interest in coming to see you play at what ever dump you are playing at next and I doubt many others will be there either.

I have seen lots of bitter musicians like yourself in my time who think the world owes them something Carma will take care of you.

Anyone who is a music executive that saw your comments would surely never want to work with a pain in the butt like yourself so watch what you put out there online you never know who sees it.

You go on with your clearly unhappy life I will continue to prosper.

Dave

Hey, giongi2. There are so many posers and marketing scams and stuff on here that it's easy to jump the gun. I'm kinda new to this forum compared to a lot of the regulars and after being on here a while and seeing more knowledgeable people like Kramerguy, Philbymon and others nailing these posers, I jumped into it and wrote something I wished I hadn't before learning all the facts. Turned out the guy was "The Writer" and I was right in what I said, but I see now that I said it at the wrong time, without knowing exactly what I was talking about. I checked this Euphony's site out and was expecting a sales pitch, but was pleasantly surprised to see none. I didn't see anything that could be of use to me in my present situation, but lots that could be for future use if the occasion arises. Also, things that others on here could and may be using right now. I never apologized to "The Writer", but I eased up on him a bit when his true colors came out and I could have joined the bashing (but there were plenty of others handling that, he he). I'd say sit back, take a deep breath, and visit this guys site again with a more open mind. I think you'll see what the others are talking about as far as him having some usable advice for those who want and need it, and it's free. You don't have to like his music, just give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. I don't consider you a troll, looking for arguments from everyone, just that you jumped in too quickly on this one, like I did, and we probably sounded a bit "trollish". The bandmix regulars seem to be pretty forgiving to us newbies. They remember what it was like.
Peace out!

The major labels, as we knew them, are dead. Stick a fork in them.

Along with their demise is the old rulebook. It's anyone's game today. Seize the day and make your own rules.

If the OP's intention is just to help people, then kudos to you - but do some more research, get more opinions, as much of what you are giving is advice - which really boils down to opinions. As shredd pointed out, age impact is an opinion, and a poorly thought out one at that.

If this site is to SELL opinions, I'm in the wrong business.
