Ok, Cubase users... I recorded some songs last night and when I went to save them, it was saved as a .cpr (cubase project something). How do I get them converted to MP3 or wav or wma format?

Thanks again for all the help!

don't use qbase but this one is easy. the format it saves in will be a format that saves all the midi, wav, performance info... etc.
start the prog back up and look for a "file - export" feature. In cakewalk this feature exists and allows one to "mute" all but the desired tracks and output to a file in mp3/wav format. Should be somthing similar in cubase. Or look for other "save as" options when saving. Let me know if this helps or we'll go "round 2". good luck

Go to FILE menu -> Export -> Audio Mixdown. Then a box will come up wanting you to pick some parameters for your mixed down audio file - I usually choose 16bit stereo WAV (interleaved) and then name the file. But if you want to save it as an mp3 instead of a WAV then it gives you that option. Be sure not to pick too low of standards on the mp3 stuff or it won't sound very good....I recommend mp3 settings of 128k stereo.

He's right.
I also use 16 bit, 128k, at 44MHz.
If you go any higher on any of those, the file get's pretty big . . .

Thanks! It is so simple when you know what you are doing...

Yeah, that's one of the big secrets in life.
Everything is simple - there's just a lot of it to learn. :)

best advice I can give you is... jump right in. don't fear the pc... it can't hurt you. try some things... what is the worst that can happen. what yer gonna find right away is that you are going to need a bunkload of harddrive space to store your songs in(cubase is a space hog). Next thing you'll find is your processor limits as you try to run more and more tracks at once. ADVICE: get a 2nd hard drive and store all wavs/songs to that. cubase is going to run a lot smoother if you are writing to a dif drive than you are running it on.
go to synthzone.com... they have all kinds of links to free vst effects, cubase files, midi files(for accompanyment), tutorials, etc.
GOOD LUCK!

MrMikeV ~ I already have an 80GB external hard drive, so that is a plus.

It is just discovering the little things. For example. I reopen the project as suggested above to convert to an MP3, but when I converted to MP3, there was only 16 seconds of the song?! So I fished around and found an audio file in Cubase and it held wav files, which was great BUT those wav files are labeled 01-01, 01-02, 01-03, 02-01, 02-02 and so on and on. I had to listen to all of them to figure who was what was where?! Anyway, with the wav files, I was able to easily open them and convert to MP3s using another program, but there are no effects (like they are saved in the CPR mode). And because of how I recorded them using a CD back (even with the original I am singing ~ since the person who wrote it lives in another state) the vocals and music are fused. I didn't bounce them, it was the only way I could figure out how to record them.

At any rate, I guess what I am ranting about is that I have come a long way since I purchased the "recording suite" 3 weeks ago. And I can say that a lot of that has to do with you guys (thank you again!!), the other gentleman I am working with and my general curiosity, BUT it appears that there is so much more to learn! And I don't even have the basic down yet. LOL!

The funny part is like most everyone has said to me, once you know it, it comes easy. Well that statement applies to most everything in life, but IT IS SO TRUE. I mean, each little step took me so long ~ in my eyes anyway~ to figure out that I can perform it like I always knew what I was doing now, but in the beginning I had no idea that volume 1 had to be 3/4 way around and mic v1 had to be 1/2 way around and monitor had to be 6/8 of the way around and during playback that all changes!! LMAO!

Couldn't there be a simpler way to do this?! For Pete's sake! :)

You have to select a range to mixdown to the audiofile. You set the range with two little white triangles found at the top of the track timeline (that has the measure numbers). drag one to the left (beginning) and the other one as far right as the amount oif measures you want to mix down (if all of them just go to the end of the song). The area that will be mixed down appears darker than what is outside of it.

my daw has two 80s and a 60 and there all filled up... you will see how quick it happens. that 80 will be gone in seconds... literally.
the reason you don't hear any effects is you need to mix down or select the track and choose something like 'apply effects'. right now you are just running a vst plug in realtime... if that makes any sense.
good luck.

Wow, thanks again!! I really appreciate all of the help that I have rec'd on here. :)
You guys are the best!

I also have 80GB on hard drive memory on my laptop, but you are right, I should probably invest in another external hard drive with more memory. I figure I need to first discover out how to use what I've already purchased. LOL!

Actually MrTaurusV...hahaha, it does make sense to me. I thought that I needed to do that (bounce) and I was able to do that using some different wavs, not what I recorded, but only using Cool Edit Pro. I couldn't figure it out using the Cubase.

NeostaR ~ it is a learning process, but I am really determined to gain the knowledge so I can grow a an artist... like these guys have said to me, hang in there and keep trying.

so you've found cool edit... use it all the time. fantastic prog. filter to be surpassed by none, not even sound forge.
when I have time I'll reinstall cubase and see if I can figure that out for ya, but irminsol(spelling) can prob tell you outright b4 I get there.
AFA drive space... start thinking about backing up stuff(I know yer not there yet but b4 you know it you'll be outta space and trying to find a fix).
best of luck to ya...
