I know I will get slammed but has anyone watched any American Idol this year?

Ive been trying to keep up with this Adam Lambert guy and man I think this dude could sing anything. I cant remember hearing a male singer with that kind of range and versatility.

Im not trying to get a debate on the validity of American Idol, just trying to give some props to an awesome singer. Id love to be in a group with a guy like him with his range. You could play just about anything and make it come off strong. Also last night he showed a humble side in giving props to whoever helped him arrange the song he did.

He has an amazing range, but lousy fashion sense, with the exception of last night. LOL I hated his arrangement of that song he did last night, yet he pulled it off in a fantastic way. His version of "Born To B Wild" was outstanding as well. If he doesn't win, it's cuz it's all fixed from the beginning!

Yeah...I see it occasionally, cuz my wife is into it & we only have one tv, dammit.

Omg I'm so ashamed!

Hey JW - I also thought Chris Allen did a great job with the latin version of Donna Summers' "She Works Hard For The Money." Way unusual arrangement, yet very very cool. This guy has a good imagination, a great ear, & perfect pitch, imho. He took that song in directions I'd never have thought of. He'll be someone to watch in the future.

Unfortunately, I think he's outshined by Adam Lambert's amazing performances & downright shocking range. He has so much energy it seems to pop right out of the tv at you. Truly a wonder, that guy is.

As for the rest. I wasn't all that impressed. The black girl has been constantly pitchy & comes off nervous as heck, when you listen to her without watching. She has no biz even being there, as far as I can tell.

Sorry I just don't watch reality TV anymore and this is no different.
Good luck to anyone who is prepackaged.

Chippy,

You should watch this guy Adam Lambert, hes got a voice to kill for. Thats all Im saying, as i said i dont care for the show that much, but when Im not doing anything I tune in just to see what ole Simon will say, but this guy has got the voice. If he had been around in the 80s, he would have had long hair, spandex and been singing in a metal band.

But hes got it going on.

Im learning not to shut the door on any msucial outlets, even a show like this. It all factors into what the public expects to hear whether I like it or not. And some of those people come to my bands shows. Its good to be up on whats going on, when they ask who I like on a show like that.

And Philby, your right that other guy had a great funky arrangement for the Summers song. I think its cool to hear what younger people do with some of these older songs I grew up listening too. On another note, I didnt care a whole lot for Lamberts version of Born To Be Wild. But it did show his range, once again I havent seen or heard many male singers that can cover as wide a range as he does.

I am at work while Idol is on, but my wife has told me about this dude. She says that he is one of the best male singers she's heard in a long time. Her favorite singer on there is Allison, but I'm not sure how much time she has left...

JW - again, you're right. It wasn't the version of BTBW that I liked, but his performance. I misspoke. When he screams those highs out, it's as good or better than anything David Byron ever did in Uriah Heap. This guy really does have an incredible range.

Yeah I appreciate that JW. I haven't looked and will not. It's a thing with me though I love talent as much as anybody around here.

I think what I was referring to is that if you have the power to administer a talent you also have an opportunity to dismiss someone who thinks they have it?

This is in all reality where this show lies. Ridicule and lament. After all folks look for the bad and funny things in life do they not? There is a winner and it is preordained so far as I can see, perhaps I am wrong?

As someone like you who has played live, faltered sometimes and played great at other times, I truly do wonder.

Keep well.

Chippy

I think Adam has a great voice and a great range... but, I don't like his whiny screams (I also like David Byron's voice much better). That's my problem with him. Alison is my choice. She's got a powerful voice. w/ Chris being second.

Allison's voice hits me weirdly. Every time I hear her sing, I think she's chosen a key that's too low, cuz she sems to be struggling to hit the bottom notes to me, but she manages to rasp it out. She has a very mature voice, for a 16 yr old, but her range really is more limited than her competition.

Adam's got everyone beat in range & energy, but Chris is by far the most creative, if only for that one interpretation of the disco thing. I still think he'll be too laid back to be seen as the "idol" type they look for, cuz Adam is just a human explosion on a stage, in spite of his weaker arrangements.

Been too busy for the idiot box.

If a man's going to work from cock crow to midnight, might as well be a farmer. Not a bad idea at that. But land is sooooo expensive.

Adam totally lost me this week. Very weak, for him. Allison - weak. I was amazed at Matt's performance, & thought it the best of the show, yet he was taken off. Sheesh - I thought he shoulda been off weeks ago, but when he pulls it out & does great, off he goes. Go figure. Kris ended up being #4 in the voting...I don't have my finger on the pulse of the great unwashed masses, I guess.

IMHO Adam is a great vocalist, but he is more suited for broadway than recording and pop. I personally would like to see Danny or Kris win it this year. But that's just me.

Since starting the new job, I'm never home during the week to watch the idiot box, but did see some earlier shows of Idol. My wife always feels compelled to call and tell me who got the boot!

Only one other person picked the one I had my eye on from the git go...Danny. While Adam does in fact have incredible range, I just don't see him as being the "whole package" for Idol. We'll see......

My wife likes Danny a lot, too, but I wonder about his overall stage personna...sometimes he just seems a bit awkward.

Kris is steady, creative, & has a good range, but may be too laid back.

If it werent' for Adam's energy, it would be a toss-up, but he'll be the winner, from what I've seen.
